Chers amis, avez-vous remarqué, quand un petit enfant arrive dans une assemblée d’adultes, il polarise immédiatement leur attention. Sans doute sont-ils attirés par la puissance, la fraîcheur de vie qui se dégage du petit d’homme, eux qui sont déjà marqués par la mort. Dear friends, did you notice that when a small child arrives among grown-ups, he instantly focuses their attention. Maybe these people who are already marked by death are drawn up by the power, the freshness of his life
« À nous de lui transmettre le difficile et passionnant art de vivre en homme sur cette terre, l’art d’œuvrer à faire de ce monde un monde plus grand, plus beau, plus juste ». Voilà sans doute les graves pensées qui traversent les adultes à ce moment-là. « It is our duty to transmit to him the difficult and exciting art of living as a human being on earth, working to make a bigger and nicer and more just world ». These may be the serious thoughts harboured by them at that time.
Quand l’enfant aura grandi, les adultes auront à s’effacer pour le laisser poursuivre l’œuvre créatrice de vie dont ils ont héritée et qu’ils ont transmis. «  À notre tour de faire confiance aux jeunes comme nos parents nous ont fait confiance ». When the child has grown up, the adults will have to withdraw to let him continue the creative work of life that they have inherited and transmitted. « It is our turn to trust the youg people in the same way as our parents have entrusted us ».
Mes frères et sœurs, maintenant, quand c’est le Fils de Dieu qui paraît, quelle n’est pas la puissance de vie qui se dégage de lui, quelle n’est pas la polarisation qu’il induit, pas seulement à l’échelle d’une assemblée, d’un peuple, mais bien à l’échelle de l’humanité et de la création, de l’univers visible et invisible : dans les crèches, aussi bien les anges que les hommes et les animaux ne sont-ils pas tous orientés vers le berceau de Jésus ? Brothers and sisters, now when we deal with the arrival among us of the Son of God, can we imagine the power of the life emanating from him, the focus he produces not only among a small group of adults or a people but among mankind and creation, among the visible universe and the invisible one ? In the Nativity scenes, angels as well and men and animals are directed towards Jesus’ crib.
En ce cinquième jour de l’octave de la Nativité du Seigneur [1], nous voyons l’arrivée de Jésus enfant polariser ce qu’a de meilleur le Temple de Jérusalem et le peuple juif : à travers Syméon, c’est Israël qui transmet la promesse de vie divine qu’il a conservé précieusement au cours de l’histoire. In the fifth day of the Octave of the Nativity of the Lord [2], Jesus’ arrival in the Temple of Jerusalem focuses the best part of the Jewish people. We can see through Simeon Israel transmitting the divine promise of life it has kept carefully throughout its history.
Mais tous n’accepteront pas de se laisser polariser par la venue du Messie, tous ne confieront pas à Jésus leur meilleur part : il en résultera des frictions et Marie aura la douleur de voir son fils mourir sur la croix, rejeté par les autorités religieuses et politiques. Not everybody will accept to be polarized by Jesus, not everybody will entrust the Messiah with their best part. Frictions will appear and Mary will suffer from the sight of her son dying on the cross, rejected by the political and religious authorities.
Cela se passera à Pâques, mais nous n’y sommes pas encore. Pour l’instant, regardons comment l’enfant divin polarise quand il paraît le meilleur de la Torah, du Temple et du peuple juif. Le meilleur de nous-mêmes aussi maintenant peut-être. These events will take place during Easter, but we are not there yet. For the time being, let us look at the way the divine child polarizes the best of the Torah, of the Temple, of the Jewish people. The best of ourselves maybe now.

Évangile de Luc 2,22-40- See Gospel by Lukas 2,22-40

２２さて、モーセの律法に定められた彼らの清めの期間が過ぎたとき、両親はその子を主に献げるため、イルサレムに連れて行った。 22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord ; 22 Puis quand vint le jour où, suivant la loi de Moïse, ils devaient être purifiés, ils l’amenèrent à Jérusalem pour le présenter au Seigneur
２３それは主の律法に、「初めて生まれる男子は皆、主のために聖別される」と書いてあるからである。  23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord ;) 23 - ainsi qu’il est écrit dans la loi du Seigneur : Tout garçon premier-né sera consacré au Seigneur - .
２４また、主の律法に言われているとおりに、山鳩一つがいか、家鳩の雛二羽をいけにえとして献げるためであった。 24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. 24 et pour offrir en sacrifice, suivant ce qui est dit dans la loi du Seigneur, un couple de tourterelles ou deux petits pigeons.
２５そのとき、エルサレムにシモンンという人がいた。この人は正しい人で信仰があつく、イスラエルの慰められるのを待ち望み、聖霊が彼にとどまっていた。 25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon ; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel : and the Holy Ghost was upon him 25 Or, il y avait à Jérusalem un homme du nom de Syméon. Cet homme était juste et pieux, il attendait la consolation d’Israël et l’Esprit Saint était sur lui.
２６　そして、　主が遣わすメシアに会うまでは決して死なない、とのお告げを聖霊から受けていた。 . 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 26 Il lui avait été révélé par l’Esprit Saint qu’il ne verrait pas la mort avant d’avoir vu le Christ du Seigneur.
２７シモンが゛霊゛に導かれて神殿の境内に入って来たとき、両親は、幼子のために律法の規定どおりにいけにえを献げようとして、イエスを連れて来た。 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple : and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 27 Il vint alors au temple poussé par l’Esprit ; et quand les parents de l’enfant Jésus l’amenèrent pour faire ce que la Loi prescrivait à son sujet
２８シモンは幼子を腕に抱き、神をたたえて言った。 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, , 28 il le prit dans ses bras et il bénit Dieu en ces termes :
２９「主よ、今こそあなたはお言葉どおりこの僕を安らかに去らせてくだいます。 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word : 29 « Maintenant, Maître, c’est en paix, comme tu l’as dit, que tu renvoies ton serviteur
３０わたしはこの目であなたの救いを見たからです。 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 30 Car mes yeux ont vu ton salut, :
３１これは万民のために整えてくださった救いで、  31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people ; 31 que tu as préparé face à tous les peuples
３２異邦人を照らす啓示の光、あなたの民イスラエルの誉れです。」 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. . 32 lumière pour la révélation aux païens et gloire d’Israël ton peuple. »
３３父と母は、幼子についてこのように言れたことに驚いていた。 33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him 33 Le père et la mère de l’enfant étaient étonnés de ce qu’on disait de lui.
３４シモンはかれらを祝福し、母親のマリアに言った。「御覧なさい。この子はイスラエルの多くの人倒したり立ち上がらせたりするためにと定められ, また、反対を受けるしるしとして定められています。 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel ; and for a sign which shall be spoken against ; 34 Syméon les bénit et dit à Marie sa mère : « Il est là pour la chute ou le relèvement de beaucoup en Israël et pour être un signe contesté
３５あなた自分も剣で心を刺し貫がれます 多くの人の心にある思いがあらわにされるためです。」 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. 35 - et toi-même, un glaive te transpercera l’âme ; ainsi seront dévoilés les débats de bien des coeurs. »
３６また、アシェル族のファヌエルの娘で、アンナという女預言者がいた。非常に年を取っていて、若いとき嫁いてから七年間　夫と共に暮らしたが、 36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser : she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity ; 36 Il y avait aussi une prophétesse, Anne, fille de Phanuel, de la tribu d’Aser. Elle était fort avancée en âge ; après avoir vécu sept ans avec son mari,
３７夫に死に別れ、八十四歳になっていた。彼女は神殿を離れず、断食したり祈ったりして、夜も昼も神に仕えていたが、 37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 37 elle était restée veuve et avait atteint l’âge de quatre-vingt-quatre ans. Elle ne s’écartait pas du temple, participant au culte nuit et jour par des jeûnes et des prières.
３８その時、近ずいて来て神を賛美し、エルサレムの救いを待ち望んでいる人々皆に幼子のことを話した。 38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. 38 Survenant au même moment, elle se mit à célébrer Dieu et à parler de l’enfant à tous ceux qui attendaient la libération de Jérusalem.
３９親子は主の律法で定められたことを皆終えたので、自分たちの待ちであるガリラヤのナザレに帰った。 39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. 39 Lorsqu’ils eurent accompli tout ce que prescrivait la loi du Seigneur, ils retournèrent en Galilée, dans leur ville de Nazareth..
４０幼子はたくましくそだち、知恵に満ち、神の恵に包まれていた。  40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom : and the grace of God was upon him 40 Quant à l’enfant, il grandissait et se fortifiait, tout rempli de sagesse, et la faveur de Dieu était sur lui
