Aujourd’hui [1], je me suis demandé ce que voulait dire la vie consacrée et comment en parler de manière claire. Et je me suis dit : « mais au fait, le rite d’entrée dit tout. » Today [2] I was wondering about a clear meaning of the consecrated life. And I told to myself : “In fact, the rite of entrance says it all”.
- Rappelons-nous ces bougies que nous avons allumées. La flamme est partie d’un cierge unique, elle a été transmise à quelques bougies qui à leur tour l’ont transmise à leurs voisines. - Let us recall about the candles we have lit. The flame was transmitted from one single candle to a few candles which in turn transmitted it to their neighbors.
Etre consacré, ce serait cela : recevoir la flamme d’un frère ou d’une sœur aîné, laisser brûler la cire parfumée de nos vertus et briller dans les ténèbres ; To be consecrated would be something like that : to receive the flame from a elder sister or brother and then let it burn the perfumed wax of our virtues and shine through darkness ;
et transmettre la flamme à un autre frère, une autre sœur, qui attend derrière. Et avec eux, ce serait la création tout entière qui attendrait, elle qui est soumise au pouvoir du péché et de la mort et qui aspire à la libération. And to transmit it to another brother, another sister, who is waiting behind. And the whole creation would be waiting with them, yearning after the release from the power of sin and death.
Et tout partirait d’un feu unique, d’une lumière unique : le Christ, le premier-né d’entre les morts qui nous apporte la lumière de la résurrection et la flamme de l’Esprit saint. It all would come from a single fire, a single light : Christ, the first to come again from the dead who offers us the light of the Resurrection and the flame of the Holy Spirit.
- En ce sens, on peut dire que tout baptisé est consacré. - We can say in this way that any baptized Christian is consecrated.
L’Église entend la consécration aussi dans un sens plus restreint : la vie consacrée, c’est un art de vivre déterminé par les trois vœux : obéissance, chasteté et pauvreté. The Church understands the term of consecration also in a narrower sense : it is a way of living structured by the three vows : obedience, chastity and poverty.
Dans le droit canon romain, cet art de vivre particulier concerne l’ordre des vierges consacrées, les instituts séculiers et les congrégations religieuses. In the Roman Canon Law, this way of living applies to the Order of the Virgins, the Secular Institutes and the religious congregations.
Quel que soit le sens, large ou restreint, de la vie consacrée au Seigneur, une chose est sûre, ou plutôt deux : The meaning of the consecrated life may be narrow or broad, but there is one – or rather two – things that are for sure.
d’abord, nous ne sommes pas la lumière, et ce titre il n’y a pas à s’enorgueillir. First of all, we are not the Light and therefore we don’t have to take pride in this respect.
Ensuite, bien sûr nous avons quelque chose à faire que nous seuls pouvons faire : nous offrir à cette lumière. Secondly, of course there is something which is up to us and that no one except ourselves can do : offering our lives to the Light.
Mais même de cela, nous n’avons pas à nous enorgueillir : il y a tant de joie à vivre dans la lumière du Christ vainqueur des ténèbres. But even in this respect, there is nothing to boast : there is so much joy to live in the light of Christ who has won over darkness.

２２さて、モーセの律法に定められた彼らの清めの期間が過ぎたとき、両親はその子を主に献げるため、イルサレムに連れて行った。 22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord ; 22 Puis quand vint le jour où, suivant la loi de Moïse, ils devaient être purifiés, ils l’amenèrent à Jérusalem pour le présenter au Seigneur
２３それは主の律法に、「初めて生まれる男子は皆、主のために聖別される」と書いてあるからである。 23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord ;) 23 - ainsi qu’il est écrit dans la loi du Seigneur : Tout garçon premier-né sera consacré au Seigneur - .
２４また、主の律法に言われているとおりに、山鳩一つがいか、家鳩の雛二羽をいけにえとして献げるためであった。 24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. 24 et pour offrir en sacrifice, suivant ce qui est dit dans la loi du Seigneur, un couple de tourterelles ou deux petits pigeons.
２５そのとき、エルサレムにシモンンという人がいた。この人は正しい人で信仰があつく、イスラエルの慰められるのを待ち望み、聖霊が彼にとどまっていた。 25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon ; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel : and the Holy Ghost was upon him 25 Or, il y avait à Jérusalem un homme du nom de Syméon. Cet homme était juste et pieux, il attendait la consolation d’Israël et l’Esprit Saint était sur lui.
２６　そして、　主が遣わすメシアに会うまでは決して死なない、とのお告げを聖霊から受けていた。 . 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 26 Il lui avait été révélé par l’Esprit Saint qu’il ne verrait pas la mort avant d’avoir vu le Christ du Seigneur.
２７シモンが゛霊゛に導かれて神殿の境内に入って来たとき、両親は、幼子のために律法の規定どおりにいけにえを献げようとして、イエスを連れて来た。 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple : and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 27 Il vint alors au temple poussé par l’Esprit ; et quand les parents de l’enfant Jésus l’amenèrent pour faire ce que la Loi prescrivait à son sujet

２９「主よ、今こそあなたはお言葉どおりこの僕を安らかに去らせてくだいます。 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word : 29 « Maintenant, Maître, c’est en paix, comme tu l’as dit, que tu renvoies ton serviteur
３０わたしはこの目であなたの救いを見たからです。 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 30 Car mes yeux ont vu ton salut, :
３１これは万民のために整えてくださった救いで、 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people ; 31 que tu as préparé face à tous les peuples
３２異邦人を照らす啓示の光、あなたの民イスラエルの誉れです。」 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. . 32 lumière pour la révélation aux païens et gloire d’Israël ton peuple. »
３３父と母は、幼子についてこのように言れたことに驚いていた。 33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him 33 Le père et la mère de l’enfant étaient étonnés de ce qu’on disait de lui.
３４シモンはかれらを祝福し、母親のマリアに言った。「御覧なさい。この子はイスラエルの多くの人倒したり立ち上がらせたりするためにと定められ, また、反対を受けるしるしとして定められています。 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel ; and for a sign which shall be spoken against ; 34 Syméon les bénit et dit à Marie sa mère : « Il est là pour la chute ou le relèvement de beaucoup en Israël et pour être un signe contesté
３５あなた自分も剣で心を刺し貫がれます 多くの人の心にある思いがあらわにされるためです。」 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. 35 - et toi-même, un glaive te transpercera l’âme ; ainsi seront dévoilés les débats de bien des coeurs. »
３６また、アシェル族のファヌエルの娘で、アンナという女預言者がいた。非常に年を取っていて、若いとき嫁いてから七年間　夫と共に暮らしたが、 36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser : she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity ; 36 Il y avait aussi une prophétesse, Anne, fille de Phanuel, de la tribu d’Aser. Elle était fort avancée en âge ; après avoir vécu sept ans avec son mari,
３７夫に死に別れ、八十四歳になっていた。彼女は神殿を離れず、断食したり祈ったりして、夜も昼も神に仕えていたが、 37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 37 elle était restée veuve et avait atteint l’âge de quatre-vingt-quatre ans. Elle ne s’écartait pas du temple, participant au culte nuit et jour par des jeûnes et des prières.
３８その時、近ずいて来て神を賛美し、エルサレムの救いを待ち望んでいる人々皆に幼子のことを話した。 38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. 38 Survenant au même moment, elle se mit à célébrer Dieu et à parler de l’enfant à tous ceux qui attendaient la libération de Jérusalem.
３９親子は主の律法で定められたことを皆終えたので、自分たちの待ちであるガリラヤのナザレに帰った。 39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. 39 Lorsqu’ils eurent accompli tout ce que prescrivait la loi du Seigneur, ils retournèrent en Galilée, dans leur ville de Nazareth..
４０幼子はたくましくそだち、知恵に満ち、神の恵に包まれていた。 40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom : and the grace of God was upon him 40 Quant à l’enfant, il grandissait et se fortifiait, tout rempli de sagesse, et la faveur de Dieu était sur lui
