Chers amis, aujourd’hui [1], je me sens en affinité avec la centième brebis perdue de la parabole évangélique. Dear friends, today [2], I feel in affinity with the hundredth sheep.
Formé par la solide Éducation nationale ancienne manière, né dans une famille agnostique, je considérais les religions comme des curiosités du passé. En même temps, peu satisfait d’une vie à l’horizon borné sinon bouché, je faisais partie des « chercheurs de sens » comme on dit. Since I was trained by the good old-styled French Éducation Nationale and since my family never spoke about religion, I considered religions as curiosities from the past. Yet at the same time I was seeking for meaning as the cliche says because I was not satisfied by my bounded if not blocked horizon.
Et puis, quelque chose m’est arrivé à 25 ans. Cela s’est passé pendant une messe il y a 44 ans dans l’église Sainte-Mathilde de Puteaux (département du 92), le deuxième dimanche de l’Avent. Then something happened when I was 25 years old. It occured 44 years ago during a Mass in the Saint-Matilda Church in Puteaux (92 department) on the second Sunday in the Advent Time.
J’étais avec mon ami Jean-Michel (T.) qui m’avait demandé de venir pour tourner les feuilles de la partition pendant qu’il jouait de l’orgue. I was with my friend Jean-Michel (T.) who had asked me to come and turn the sheets of the partition while he was playing the organ.
Me voilà donc ce dimanche 8 décembre 1985 à la tribune de l’orgue, pendant que se déroulait en dessous un rite qui m’était étranger. There I was on this Sunday, the 8th of December, 1985, standing in the organ gallery while a rite stranger to me was unfolding.
Seulement voilà, l’évangile du jour [3] parlait d’une voix qui criait dans le désert : « aplanissez les chemins du Seigneur, comblez les ravins et abaissez les collines ». Et comme Jean-Michel jouait aux deux messes, j’ai entendu deux fois ce passage. However the Gospel of the day [4] was speaking about a voice in the desert asking for leveling the path of the Lord, filling the ravines and lowering the hills. And since Jean-Michel was playing at two masses on this Sunday, I heard this passage twice.
Je ne comprenais pas de quel Seigneur il s’agissait mais il était clair pour moi qu’il fallait interpréter psychologiquement le texte.
Il appelait à accomplir un travail sur soi afin de surmonter ce qui faisait obstacle à la rencontre de l’autre : les ravins désignaient les peurs et les jalousies, tandis que les collines renvoyaient à l’orgueil et à la haine.		 I had no hint about what the Lord meant but I had no doubt that the text was to be interpreted in a psychological way. I had to work myself so as to overcome the obstacles to the encounter with the other : the ravines stood for the fears and the jealousies while the hills refered to pride and hatred.
Je fis ainsi et, une certaine nuit de décembre 1985, la rencontre s’est produite, - pas celle à laquelle je m’attendais, une rencontre non pas avec un autre mais avec l’Autre : Quelqu’un qui dépassait de loin n’importe quelle réalité de cette terre et qui m’était pourtant infiniment plus présent que n’importe laquelle d’entre elles. So did I and on a certain night of Decembre 1985, the encounter took place – not the one I was expecting, not one with the other but one with the Other : Someone who was standing far beyond any wordly reality but who was yet far more present to me than any of them.
Cette Présence a étoilé ma nuit et son goût m’est resté les jours suivants. Comme j’en avais parlé à mon ami, il m’a conseillé d’aller vérifier tout cela avec père Pierre (B.), le curé de Puteaux à l’époque. Et six mois plus tard, en juin 1986, je recevais le baptême dans l’Eglise catholique. This Presence starred my night and its taste lingered for several days. As I spoke about it to my friend Jean-Michel, he advised me to check my experience with Father Pierre (B.), the parish priest in Puteaux at that time. Six months later, in June 1986, I was baptized in the Catholic Church.
Mes amis, vous qui sans doute faites partie des 99 brebis, réjouissez d’être ensemble au chaud dans l’Église du Christ, rendez grâce pour l’excès de sens que donne la foi au Christ, vous qui êtes appelés par lui à la vie éternelle, vous qui dès maintenant ressentez les effets du salut apporté par le Christ sur la croix. My friends, you surely belong to the 99 sheep, so please enjoy your being together wrapped in the warmth of the Church of Christ, please give thanks for the excess of meaning derived from the faith in Christ, you who now already feel the effects of the salvation brought by the Christ on the cross.
Et prenez part aussi au souci du berger pour la centième brebis, celle qui manque, celle qui a froid et qui est seule, celle qui erre sans savoir ni où aller ni où trouver de repos. And please have your share in the shepherd’s concern for the hundredth sheep, the missing one, the one which feels cold and is alone, the one which wanders without knowing where to go or where to find rest

１２あなたがたはどう思うか。ある人が羊を百匹持っていて、その一匹が迷い出たとすれば九十九匹を山に残しておいて、迷い出た一匹を捜しに行かないだろうか。 2 Quel est votre avis ? Si un homme a cent brebis et que l’une d’entre elles vienne à s’égarer, ne va-t-il pas laisser les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf autres dans la montagne pour aller à la recherche de celle qui s’est égarée ? 12 How think ye ? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray ?
１３はっきり言っておくが、もし、それを見つけたら、迷わずにいた九十九匹より、その一匹のことを喜ぶだろう。 3 Et s’il parvient à la retrouver, en vérité je vous le déclare, il en a plus de joie que des quatre-vingt-dix-neuf qui ne se sont pas égarées. 3 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.
１４そのように、これらの小さな者が一人でも滅びることは、あなたがたの天の父の御心ではない」。 4 Ainsi votre Père qui est aux cieux veut qu’aucun de ces petits ne se perde. 4 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

Isaïe 40,1-11 - Isaiah 40:1-11

「慰めよ、慰めよ、私の民を」／と、あなたがたの神は言われる。 1 Réconfortez, réconfortez mon peuple, dit votre Dieu, 1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
「エルサレムに優しく語りかけ／これに呼びかけよ。／その苦役の時は満ち／その過ちは償われた。／そのすべての罪に倍するものを／主の手から受けた」と。 2 parlez au cœur de Jérusalem et proclamez à son adresse que sa corvée est remplie, que son châtiment est accompli, qu’elle a reçu de la main du SEIGNEUR deux fois le prix de toutes ses fautes. 2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned : for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.
呼びかける声がする。／「荒れ野に主の道を備えよ。／私たちの神のために／荒れ地に大路をまっすぐに通せ。 3 Une voix proclame : « Dans le désert dégagez un chemin pour le SEIGNEUR, nivelez dans la steppe une chaussée pour notre Dieu. 3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
谷はすべて高くされ、山と丘はみな低くなり／起伏のある地は平らに、険しい地は平地となれ。 4 Que tout vallon soit relevé, que toute montagne et toute colline soient rabaissées, que l’éperon devienne une plaine et les mamelons, une trouée 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low : and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain :
こうして主の栄光が現れ／すべての肉なる者は共に見る。／主の口が語られたのである。」 5 Alors la gloire du SEIGNEUR sera dévoilée et tous les êtres de chair ensemble verront que la bouche du SEIGNEUR a parlé. » ! 5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together : for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
「呼びかけよ」と言う声がする。／私は言った。「何と呼びかけたらよいでしょうか。」／「すべての肉なる者は草／その栄えはみな野の花のようだ。 6 Une voix dit : « Proclame ! », l’autre dit : « Que proclamerai-je ? » - « Tous les êtres de chair sont de l’herbe et toute leur constance est comme la fleur des champs : 6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry ? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field :
草は枯れ、花はしぼむ。／主の風がその上に吹いたからだ。／まさしくこの民は草だ。 7 l’herbe sèche, la fleur se fane quand le souffle du SEIGNEUR vient sur elles en rafale. Oui, le peuple, c’est de l’herbe : 7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth : because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it : surely the people is grass.
草は枯れ、花はしぼむ。／しかし、私たちの神の言葉はとこしえに立つ。」 8 l’herbe sèche, la fleur se fane, mais la parole de notre Dieu subsistera toujours ! » 8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth : but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
高い山に登れ／シオンに良い知らせを伝える者よ。／力の限り声を上げよ／エルサレムに良い知らせを伝える者よ。／声を上げよ、恐れるな。／ユダの各地の町に言え。／「見よ、あなたがたの神を。」 9 Quant à toi, monte sur une haute montagne, Sion, joyeuse messagère, élève avec énergie ta voix, Jérusalem, joyeuse messagère élève-la, ne crains pas, dis aux villes de Juda : « Voici votre Dieu, 9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain ; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength ; lift it up, be not afraid ; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God !
見よ、主なる神は力を帯びて来られ／御腕によって統治される。／見よ、その報いは主と共にあり／その報酬は御前にある。 10 voici le Seigneur DIEU ! Avec vigueur il vient, et son bras lui assurera la souveraineté ; voici avec lui son salaire, et devant lui sa récompense. 10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him : behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
主は羊飼いのようにその群れを飼い／その腕に小羊を集めて、懐に抱き／乳を飲ませる羊を導く。 11 Comme un berger il fait paître son troupeau, de son bras il rassemble ; il porte sur son sein les agnelets, procure de la fraîcheur aux brebis qui allaitent. » 11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd : he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

ヨハネはヨルダン川沿いの地方一帯に行って、罪の赦しを得させるために悔い改めの洗礼(バプテスマ)を宣べ伝えた。 3 Il vint dans toute la région du Jourdain, proclamant un baptême de conversion en vue du pardon des péchés, 3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins ;
これは、預言者イザヤの言葉の書に書いてあるとおりである。／「荒れ野で叫ぶ者の声がする。／『主の道を備えよ／その道筋をまっすぐにせよ。 4 comme il est écrit au livre des oracles du prophète Esaïe : Une voix crie dans le désert : Préparez le chemin du Seigneur, rendez droits ses sentiers. 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
谷はすべて埋められ／山と丘はみな低くされる。／曲がった道はまっすぐに／でこぼこの道は平らになり 5 Tout ravin sera comblé, toute montagne et toute colline seront abaissées ; les passages tortueux seront redressés, les chemins rocailleux aplanis ; 5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low ; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth ;
人は皆、神の救いを見る。』」 6 et tous verront le salut de Dieu. 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
