Voir Matthieu 2,1-12 - See Matthew 2 :1-12

Chers amis, aujourd’hui [1] dans le tramway qui m’amenait chez vous, j’ai dû entendre une jeune femme assise non loin de moi, décrivant au téléphone sa relation avec son compagnon. Dear friends, when coming here today [2] by the tramway, I was forced to hear a young lady sitting not far from me who was speaking about her relationship with her boyfriend by phone.
Elle reprenait ce qu’il avait fait et dit, et comment elle-même avait réagi, ainsi que d’autres personnes. She was describing what he said and did in various circumstances, and the way she and others reacted.
En entendant bien involontairement la conversation, je me disais que cette jeune femme cherchait à trouver un sens, une direction à une relation apparemment compliquée. While hearing quite unintentionally the conversation, I thought that this young woman was trying to make sense with a relationship which sounded complicated.
Peut-être sommes-nous tous un peu comme elle, à chercher un sens global à nos interactions avec notre entourage, tant au niveau des individus que des pays. Maybe we look a bit like her when we look for a global meaning, a general direction to our interactions with our entourage, both at the individual and international levels.
Et dans la foi, je me disais que la manifestation de Dieu en Jésus Christ répondait à cette attente : oui, nous avons chacun notre étoile au ciel, mais celle de Jésus est la plus haute, la plus brillante, et les autres étoiles sont appelées à graviter autour d’elle, transformant ainsi le ciel en un ballet merveilleux. My faith made me think that God’s manifestation in Jesus Christ was the response to this expectation : yes, each of us has his or her star in the sky but the star of Jesus is the highest and the brightest, and the other stars are to gravitate around it, transforming the sky into a marvelous ballet
Nous aussi, sur terre, comme les mages, nous avons à suivre l’étoile, à entrer humblement dans la maison qu’elle désigne, et là, à voir l’enfant avec Marie sa mère. We, too, like the wise men we have to follow the star, enter humbly the house it points out and there see the child with his mother Mary.
Alors comme les mages, saisis par la manifestation divine, tombant aux pieds de Jésus, nous nous prosternons devant lui et nous lui offrons les présents qui conviennent à un roi et un dieu : or et encens. Then like the wise men, overwhelmed by the divine manifestation, we fall at the feet of Jesus, bow down before him and we offer him the presents befitting a king and a god : gold and incense
Attention, cette humilité n’est pas une humiliation, elle n’est pas contrainte : non, elle est l’expression spontanée de notre reconnaissance amoureuse envers celui qui a accepté de s’abaisser jusqu’à la mort par amour pour son Père et pour la création – pour nous, pour moi – cette mort qu’annonce le troisième présent de la myrrhe utilisée dans les rites funéraires. Let us be careful, the humility is not humiliation, it is not forced. No, it is the spontaneous expression of our loving gratitude to the one who accepted to lower himself to the point of dying out of love for his Father and for the Creation – for us, for me – and the third present of the myrrh used for the funerals forbade this death.
Je vais conclure avec l’image de la toile de tente : on dresse la tente en passant le mât par l’œillet central dans la toile. I will conclude with the image of the canvas of a tent : we raise the tent by passing the mast through the central eyelet in the canvas.
De même, Dieu élève toute la création à lui à partir du lieu central de la création, le Verbe-fait-chair, vrai homme et vrai Dieu. In the same way, God raises the Creation to Him from the central point of the Creation, viz the Word-made-flesh, true man and true God.
« Par lui, avec lui et en lui, à toi, Dieu le Père tout puissant, dans l’unité du Saint-Esprit, tout honneur et toute gloire ». « Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. »

Matthieu 2, 1-12 - Matthew 2:1-12

イエスがヘロデ王の時代にユダヤのベツレヘムでお生まれになったとき、東方の博士たちがエルサレムにやって来て、 Jésus étant né à Bethléem de Judée, au temps du roi Hérode, voici que des mages venus d’Orient arrivèrent à Jérusalem Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
言った。「ユダヤ人の王としてお生まれになった方は、どこにおられますか。私たちは東方でその方の星を見たので、拝みに来たのです。」 2 et demandèrent : « Où est le roi des Juifs qui vient de naître ? Nous avons vu son astre à l’Orient et nous sommes venus lui rendre hommage. » 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews ? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
これを聞いて、ヘロデ王は不安を抱いた。エルサレムの人々も皆、同様であった。 3 À cette nouvelle, le roi Hérode fut troublé, et tout Jérusalem avec lui. 3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
王は祭司長たちや民の律法学者たちを皆集めて、メシアはどこに生まれることになっているのかと問いただした。 4 Il assembla tous les grands prêtres et les scribes du peuple, et s’enquit auprès d’eux du lieu où le Messie devait naître. 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
彼らは王に言った。「ユダヤのベツレヘムです。預言者がこう書いています。 5 « À Bethléem de Judée, lui dirent-ils, car c’est ce qui est écrit par le prophète : 5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea : for thus it is written by the prophet,
『ユダの地、ベツレヘムよ／あなたはユダの指導者たちの中で／決して最も小さな者ではない。／あなたから一人の指導者が現れ／私の民イスラエルの牧者となるからである。』」 6 Et toi, Bethléem, terre de Juda, tu n’es certes pas le plus petit des chefs-lieux de Juda : car c’est de toi que sortira le chef qui fera paître Israël, mon peuple. » 6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda : for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
そこで、ヘロデは博士たちをひそかに呼び寄せ、星の現れた時期を確かめた。 7 Alors Hérode fit appeler secrètement les mages, se fit préciser par eux l’époque à laquelle l’astre apparaissait 7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
そして、こう言ってベツレヘムへ送り出した。「行って、その子のことを詳しく調べ、見つかったら知らせてくれ。私も行って拝むから。」 8 et les envoya à Bethléem en disant : « Allez vous renseigner avec précision sur l’enfant ; et, quand vous l’aurez trouvé, avertissez-moi pour que, moi aussi, j’aille lui rendre hommage. » 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child ; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
彼らが王の言葉を聞いて出かけると、東方で見た星が先立って進み、ついに幼子がいる場所の上に止まった。 9 Sur ces paroles du roi, ils se mirent en route ; et voici que l’astre, qu’ils avaient vu à l’Orient, avançait devant eux jusqu’à ce qu’il vînt s’arrêter au-dessus de l’endroit où était l’enfant 9 When they had heard the king, they departed ; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
博士たちはその星を見て喜びに溢れた。 10 À la vue de l’astre, ils éprouvèrent une très grande joie. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
家に入ってみると、幼子が母マリアと共におられた。彼らはひれ伏して幼子を拝み、宝の箱を開けて、黄金、乳香、没薬を贈り物として献げた。 11 Entrant dans la maison, ils virent l’enfant avec Marie, sa mère, et, se prosternant, ils lui rendirent hommage ; ouvrant leurs coffrets, ils lui offrirent en présent de l’or, de l’encens et de la myrrhe. 11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him : and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts ; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
それから、「ヘロデのところへ帰るな」と夢でお告げがあったので、別の道を通って自分の国へ帰って行った。 12 Puis, divinement avertis en songe de ne pas retourner auprès d’Hérode, ils se retirèrent dans leur pays par un autre chemin. 12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
