Dans l’évangile de ce jour [1], Jésus vient d’avoir rassasié la foule avec seulement cinq pains et deux poissons. In today [2]’s Gospel, Jesus has just satiated the crowd with five loaves of bread and two fish
Alors la foule veut l’enlever pour le faire roi et il doit se retirer pour lui échapper. The crowd therefore wants to seize him and make him their king and he has to withdraw to escape them.
Le mot latin utilisé pour « enlever » dans la Vulgate est raperent, qui renvoie au rapt, à la rapacité : on peut penser à l’oiseau de proie qui saisit sa proie avec ses serres et ne la lâche plus qu’il ne l’ait dévorée. The latin word for « seize » is raperent, which refers to the raptor which seizes its prey with its talons and does not release it until it has devoured it.
Le mot grec arpazein quant à lui nous fait penser à Harpagon dans la pièce de théâtre de Molière de 1668, cet avare dont l’appétit d’argent est insatiable. The greek word arpazein reminds us of the character Harpagon in 1668 play of Molière, this miser whose appetite for money is insatiable.
La foule veut mettre la main sur ce Jésus qui semble détenir les clés d’un Royaume de Dieu qui ressemble au pays de Cocagne, le pays fabuleux où il suffit d’ouvrir la bouche pour qu’y tombent les cailles rôties : en Cocagne, point n’est besoin de travailler, d’étudier, de faire des efforts. The crowd wants to get their hands on this Jesus who seems to hold the keys to a Kingdom of God that resembles the land of Cockaigne, this fabulous country where the only effort you have to do is to open your mouth, and roasted quails will fall into it : in Cockaigne, there is no need to work, to study, to make efforts.
Je crois qu’une part de nous rêve elle aussi à un Royaume de Dieu sur ce modèle. I guess there is a part of ourselves which dreams about a Kingdom of God on this dream.
Mais le vrai Royaume de Dieu auquel Jésus nous convie est autrement exigeant : avant d’être un royaume, c’est d’abord un règne, celui de Dieu dans et sur nos cœurs. But the true Kingdom of God to which Jesus invites us is far more demanding : the Kingdom of Go is the place where God reigns over our hearts and in them.
Oui, pour entrer dans le Royaume de Dieu, nous ne pouvons pas faire l’économie de la conversion de nos désirs les plus profonds qui se manifestent dans une avidité jamais assouvie. We cannot indeed avoid converting our hearts in depth if we want to enter the Kingdom of God, and especially the unending greed inside us.
Heureux sommes-nous d’avoir un tel Seigneur qui échappe à toutes nos tentatives de mettre la main sur lui. We are really lucky to have such a Lord who escapes all our attempts to get hold of him.
Heureux sommes-nous d’avoir un tel Seigneur qui n’a pas considéré sa condition divine comme une proie à ravir, mais qui l’a remise pour que le Père nous la donne sur la croix. We are really luck to have such a Lord who did not look at his divine condition like a prey to seize but who entreated it so that the Father could give it to us on the cross.
Béni soit Dieu maintenant et à jamais. Amen. Blessed be God now and forever. Amen.

その後、イエスはガリラヤ湖、すなわちティベリアス湖の向こう岸に渡られた。 Après cela, Jésus passa sur l’autre rive de la mer de Galilée, dite encore de Tibériade After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.
大勢の群衆が後を追った。イエスが病人たちになさったしるしを見たからである。 2 Une grande foule le suivait parce que les gens avaient vu les signes qu’il opérait sur les malades. 2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.
イエスは山に登り、弟子たちと一緒にそこにお座りになった。 3 C’est pourquoi Jésus gravit la montagne et s’y assit avec ses disciples. 3 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.
ユダヤ人の祭りである過越祭が近づいていた。 4 C’était peu avant la Pâque qui est la fête des Juifs. 4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.
イエスは目を上げ、大勢の群衆がご自分の方へ来るのを見て、フィリポに言われた。「どこでパンを買って来て、この人たちに食べさせようか。」 5 Or, ayant levé les yeux, Jésus vit une grande foule qui venait à lui. Il dit à Philippe : « Où achèterons-nous des pains pour qu’ils aient de quoi manger ? » 5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat ?
こう言ったのはフィリポを試みるためであって、ご自分では何をしようとしているか知っておられたのである。 6 En parlant ainsi il le mettait à l’épreuve ; il savait, quant à lui, ce qu’il allait faire. 6 And this he said to prove him : for he himself knew what he would do.
フィリポは、「めいめいが少しずつ食べたとしても、二百デナリオンのパンでは足りないでしょう」と答えた。 7 Philippe lui répondit : « Deux cents deniers de pain ne suffiraient pas pour que chacun reçoive un petit morceau. » 7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.
弟子の一人で、シモン・ペトロの兄弟アンデレが、イエスに言った。 8 Un de ses disciples, André, le frère de Simon-Pierre, lui dit : 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,
「ここに大麦のパン五つと魚二匹とを持っている少年がいます。けれども、こんなに大勢の人では、それが何になりましょう。」 9 « Il y a là un garçon qui possède cinq pains d’orge et deux petits poissons ; mais qu’est-ce que cela pour tant de gens ? » 9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes : but what are they among so many ?
イエスは、「人々を座らせなさい」と言われた。その場所には草が多かった。それで、人々は座った。その数はおよそ五千人であった。 10 Jésus dit : « Faites-les asseoir. » Il y avait beaucoup d’herbe à cet endroit. Ils s’assirent donc ; ils étaient environ cinq mille hommes. 10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
そこで、イエスはパンを取り、感謝の祈りを唱えてから、座っている人々に分け与えられた。また、魚も同じようにして、欲しいだけ分け与えられた。 11 Alors Jésus prit les pains, il rendit grâce et les distribua aux convives. Il fit de même avec les poissons ; il leur en donna autant qu’ils en désiraient. 11 And Jesus took the loaves ; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down ; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.
人々が十分食べたとき、イエスは弟子たちに、「少しも無駄にならないように、余ったパン切れを集めなさい」と言われた。 12 Lorsqu’ils furent rassasiés, Jésus dit à ses disciples : « Rassemblez les morceaux qui restent, de sorte que rien ne soit perdu. » 12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
集めると、人々が大麦のパン五つを食べて、なお余ったパン切れで、十二の籠がいっぱいになった。 13 Ils les rassemblèrent et ils remplirent douze paniers avec les morceaux des cinq pains d’orge qui étaient restés à ceux qui avaient mangé. 13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
人々はイエスのなさったしるしを見て、「まさにこの人こそ、世に来るべき預言者である」と言った。 14 À la vue du signe qu’il venait d’opérer, les gens dirent : « Celui-ci est vraiment le Prophète, celui qui doit venir dans le monde. » 14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
イエスは、人々が来て、自分を王にするために連れて行こうとしているのを知り、独りでまた山に退かれた。 15 Mais Jésus, sachant qu’on allait venir l’enlever pour le faire roi, se retira à nouveau, seul, dans la montagne. 15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
