| En ce jour [1] où nous fêtons l’apôtre Thomas, demandons-nous qui est le « jumeau » de Thomas. | Today [2] let us ask ourselves who is Thomas the Apostle ‘s twin . |
| Je dirais que d’une certaine manière, nous sommes ses frères et sœurs et jumeaux : nous aussi, nous avons à passer du sensible – je vois les plaies du Crucifié et j’entends sa parole – et de l’intellectuel – j’estime plausible que Jésus soit ressuscité et que cela ait des implications pour moi – à la confession existentielle de Jésus : « Mon Seigneur et mon Dieu ». | I would say that in a way we are Thomas’ twins since we have to move from the sensitive order - I see the wounds of the Crucified and I hear his words and the intellectual order - I guess it is possible that Jesus resurrected and that His Resurrection has important implications for me - to an existential confession of Jesus as « My Lord and my Savior » |
| Comme Thomas, nous avons à marcher sur un chemin où nous devons porter patiemment et sincèrement le poids du doute – peut-être que ma foi est une illusion individuelle et collective ? | Like Thomas, we have to walk up a path while carrying our load of doubt with patience and sincerity - maybe my faith is a personal and collective illusion . |
| Nous avançons, animés par la confiance en nos aînés qui nous ont précédés sur le chemin, et en premier lieu les apôtres. | We move forward, relying on the trust in our elders, in the first place the Apostles, who preceded us. |
| Et soudain une présence mystérieuse nous enveloppe de la tête aux pieds, l’amour divin devient une évidence qui dissipe instantanément nos doutes, tandis que jaillit de nos lèvres l’aveu impossible à contrôler de Thomas : « Mon Seigneur et mon Dieu ». | And suddenly a mysterious presence envelops us from head to toe, the divine love becomes something obvious, our former doubts vanish immediately while Thomas’ confession flows from our mouth out of control : « My Lord and my God » |
| Plus tard, l’évidence s’estompe et le doute revient : nous reprenons la route, mais de plus haut, car si le chemin ressemble à une boucle, c’est une boucle ascendante. | Later the evidence fades out and doubt comes back : we resume our trip but from a higher level because the path looks like a loop, but an ascending one. |
| Oui, vraiment, « il est grand, le mystère de la foi ». | « Let us proclaim the mystery of faith » : it is indeed a mystery |

| 十二人の一人でディディモと呼ばれるトマスは、イエスが来られたとき、彼らと一緒にいなかった | 4 Cependant Thomas, l’un des Douze, celui qu’on appelle Didyme, n’était pas avec eux lorsque Jésus vint. | 4 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. |
| そこで、ほかの弟子たちが、「わたしたちは主を見た」と言うと、トマスは言った。「あの方の手に釘の跡を見、この指を釘跡に入れてみなければ、また、この手をそのわき腹に入れてみなければ、わたしは決して信じない。」 | 25 Les autres disciples lui dirent donc : « Nous avons vu le Seigneur ! » Mais il leur répondit : « Si je ne vois pas dans ses mains la marque des clous, si je n’enfonce pas mon doigt à la place des clous et si je n’enfonce pas ma main dans son côté, je ne croirai pas ! » | 25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. |
| さて八日の後、弟子たちはまた家の中におり、トマスも一緒にいた。戸にはみな鍵がかけてあったのに、イエスが来て真ん中に立ち、「あなたがたに平和があるように」と言われた。 | 26 Or huit jours plus tard, les disciples étaient à nouveau réunis dans la maison, et Thomas était avec eux. Jésus vint, toutes portes verrouillées, il se tint au milieu d’eux et leur dit : « La paix soit avec vous. » | 26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them : then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. |
| それから、トマスに言われた。「あなたの指をここに当てて、わたしの手を見なさい。また、あなたの手を伸ばし、わたしのわき腹に入れなさい。信じない者ではなく、信じる者になりなさい。」 | 27 Ensuite il dit à Thomas : « Avance ton doigt ici et regarde mes mains ; avance ta main et enfonce-la dans mon côté, cesse d’être incrédule et deviens un homme de foi. » | 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands ; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side : and be not faithless, but believing. |
| トマスは答えて、「わたしの主、わたしの神よ」と言った。 | 28 Thomas lui répondit : « Mon Seigneur et mon Dieu. » | 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. |
| イエスはトマスに言われた。「わたしを見たから信じたのか。見ないのに信じる人は、幸いである。」 | 29 Jésus lui dit : « Parce que tu m’as vu, tu as cru ; bienheureux ceux qui, sans avoir vu, ont cru. » | 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed : blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. |
