Mes amis, l’Évangile de ce jour [1] évoque l’alternance de la présence et de l’absence de Jésus. La mystique dominicaine Catherine de Sienne parlait du jeu de l’amant, tour à tour présent et absent, l’absence permettant à l’amante de découvrir la force de son désir. My friends, today [2]’s Gospel evokes the alternation of the presence and absence of Jesus. The Dominican mystic Catherine of Siena spoke of the lover’s game, alternately present and absent, the absence allowing the lover to discover the strengh of her desire.
Nous aussi, nous faisons l’expérience de cette alternance. We too experience this alternation.
Quand le Christ est là, profitons des grâces qui accompagnent sa présence pour progresser sur le chemin de sanctification qui nous mène au Père. Courons, dirait Catherine de Sienne When Christ is there, let us take advantage of the graces that accompany his presence to progress on the path of sanctification which leads us to the Father. Let us run would say Catherina of Siena
Quand il n’est pas là, pleurons nos péchés qui l’empêchent de se manifester à nous et de nous donner encore plus de grâces. Nos larmes amolliront le sol desséché de nos cœurs. When he is not there, let us mourn our sins that prevent him from manifesting to us and giving us even more graces. Our tears will soften the dry soil of our hearts.
Repérons les chemins que Jésus emprunte pour nous rejoindre, et pratiquons-les, mais sans vouloir les imposer au Christ. Let us identify the paths that Jesus takes to reach us, and let us practice them, but without wanting to impose them on Christ.
Les mystiques nous en avertissent, Dieu nous rejoint comme il veut et quand il veut : le chemin peut être celui du jeûne et de la prière, mais Dieu peut en emprunter d’autres, car il sait mieux que nous ce qui nous convient. Alors soyons joyeux d’avoir repéré un chemin emprunté par Dieu, mais pas trop. The mystics warn us, God joins us as he wants and when he wants : the path can be that of fasting and prayer, but God can take other paths, because he knows better than us what suits us.. So let’s be happy that we have spotted a path taken by God, but not too much.
Et si Dieu l’estime utile, il se cachera à nos yeux. Alors soyons tristes quand nous n’éprouvons pas sa présence, mais pas trop car s’il se cache, c’est toujours pour notre bien, c’est toujours pour nous faire progresser sur la voie de sainteté qui nous est propre. And if God considers it useful, he will hide from us. So let’s be sad when we don’t feel his presence, but not too much because his hiding is for our good, it is always to make us progress on our own path of holiness.
Je conclurai avec une analogie : le barreur d’un bateau à voile garde les yeux fixés sur la destination finale, mais il corrige en permanence son cap par des coups de barre à tribord ou à bâbord. C’est ainsi qu’il tient compte des changements du vent et du courant. I will conclude with an analogy : the coxswain of a sailing boat keeps his eyes fixed on the final destination, but he constantly corrects his course by swings to starboard or port. This is how he takes into account changes in wind and current.
Il en va de même du chrétien animé par l’Esprit saint qui veut atteindre le port du salut. Les yeux fixés sur le phare de la croix, il change son cap en fonction des mouvements de l’Esprit saint et des courants qui traversent le monde. It is the same with the Christian animated by the Holy Spirit who wants to reach the port of salvation. With his eyes fixed on the lighthouse of the cross, he changes his course according to the movements of the Holy Spirit and the currents that traverse the world.

人々はイエスに言った。「ヨハネの弟子たちは度々断食し、祈りをし、ファリサイ派の弟子たちも同じようにしています。しかし、あなたの弟子たちは飲んだり食べたりしています。」 33 Ils lui dirent : « Les disciples de Jean jeûnent souvent et font des prières, de même ceux des Pharisiens, tandis que les tiens mangent et boivent. » 33 And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees ; but thine eat and drink ?
そこで、イエスは言われた。「花婿が一緒にいるのに、婚礼の客に断食させることがあなたがたにできようか。 34 Jésus leur dit : « Est-ce que vous pouvez faire jeûner les invités à la noce pendant que l’époux est avec eux ? 34 And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them ?
しかし、花婿が奪い取られる時が来る。その時には、彼らは断食することになる。」 35 Mais des jours viendront où l’époux leur aura été enlevé, alors ils jeûneront en ces jours-là. » 35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
そして、イエスはたとえを話された。「だれも、新しい服から布切れを破り取って、古い服に継ぎを当てたりはしない。そんなことをすれば、新しい服も破れるし、新しい服から取った継ぎ切れも古いものには合わないだろう。 36 Il leur dit encore une parabole : « Personne ne déchire un morceau dans un vêtement neuf pour mettre une pièce à un vieux vêtement ; sinon, et on aura déchiré le neuf et la pièce tirée du neuf n’ira pas avec le vieux. 36 And he spake also a parable unto them ; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old ; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.
また、だれも、新しいぶどう酒を古い革袋に入れたりはしない。そんなことをすれば、新しいぶどう酒は革袋を破って流れ出し、革袋もだめになる。 37 Personne ne met du vin nouveau dans de vieilles outres ; sinon le vin nouveau fera éclater les outres et le vin se répandra, et les outres seront perdues. 37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles ; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
新しいぶどう酒は、新しい革袋に入れねばならない。 38 Mais il faut mettre le vin nouveau dans des outres neuves. 38 But new wine must be put into new bottles ; and both are preserved.
また、古いぶどう酒を飲めば、だれも新しいものを欲しがらない。『古いものの方がよい』と言うのである。」 39 Quiconque boit du vin vieux n’en désire pas du nouveau, car il dit : ‹Le vieux est meilleur.› » 39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new : for he saith, The old is better.
