Un frère s’étonnait que l’on enlève son talent à celui qui n’en avait reçu qu’un dans la parabole de l’Évangile d’aujourd’hui [1], surtout en cette journée de prière pour les pauvres ; j’avais alors répondu que de toute façon l’homme ne faisait rien de son talent, alors autant le donner à quelqu’un d’autre. A brother was astonished that the talent of the one who had received only was taken away from him in today’s Gospel parable [2] , especially on this day of prayer for the poor ; I replied to him that since the man wasn’t doing anything with his talent anyway, so it might as well be given to someone else.
L’argent est fait pour circuler, pour être échangé, pour « faire des petits » comme on dit en français. La vie est faite pour circuler, pour être transmise. Money is supposed to circulate, to be exchanged, to beget money. Life is supposed to circulate, to be transmitted.
La Bonne nouvelle du salut en Jésus Christ est faite pour circuler, pour fructifier ; elle n’est pas faite pas pour être confinée dans un coin de notre âme. The Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ is supposed to circulate, to bear fruit. It isn’t supposed to be confined in a corner of our soul.
On peut s’étonner aussi de ce que le maitre semble accepter ce que dit de lui le mauvais serviteur : « tu es un maître âpre au gain, tu moissonnes là où tu n’as pas semé ».
Attention au contre-sens, le maître prend simplement son serviteur au mot, il ne dit pas que c’est vrai.		 We may also be surprised that the master seems to accept what the bad servant says about him : "you are a greedy master, you reap where you have not sown".
Beware of the misunderstanding, the master simply takes his servant at his word, without saying it is true.
« Mauvais serviteur, tu dis que je suis un homme âpre au gain, ok, on va jouer selon l’image que tu as de moi – qui est fausse mais peu importe - : pourquoi n’as-tu pas agi en conséquence en plaçant mon argent à la banque : sans courir aucun risque, tu aurais présenté les intérêts au maître cupide que je suis supposé être. Conformément à ce que tu dis, je vais maintenant agir en maitre âpre au gain qui se met en colère contre son gestionnaire incapable ». « Bad servant, you say that I am a greedy man, ok, let us we play according to what you think about me - which is false but whatever - : why didn’t you act accordingly by placing my money in the bank : without running any risk, you would have presented the interests to the greedy master that I am supposed to be. In accordance with what you say, I will now act as a greedy master who gets angry with his incapable manager ”
Ne tombons pas dans le travers du serviteur incapable et faisons confiance à notre Dieu Let us not fall into the trap of the incapable servant and let us trust God.
Es-tu celui qui n’a reçu qu’un talent ? Ne sois pas jaloux des frères qui ont reçu plus, ce que tu as représente déjà une somme faramineuse. Are you the one who only received one talent ? Do not be jealous of the brothers who have received more, what you have already represents a huge sum.
Peut-être t’inquiètes-tu de perdre ton talent à cause de ta mauvaise gestion : fais confiance au maître, tu fais partie de sa maison et il te connaît bien, aussi ce qu’il t’a confié est proportionné à tes capacités. Maybe you are worried about losing your talent because of your mismanagement : trust your master, you are part of his household and he knows you well, so what was entrusted to you is proportionate to your abilities.
Es-tu celui qui a reçu cinq talents ? Ne vas pas t’enorgueillir par rapport à celui qui a reçu moins, dis-toi que tu portes une responsabilité d’autant plus grande et qu’il te sera demandé à la hauteur ce que tu as reçu. Considère humblement que tu es un serviteur inutile admis par grâce à servir un maître dont la grandeur te dépasse infiniment. Are you the one who received five talents ? Do not take pride by comparing yourself with the one who has received less, remember that you bear a greater responsibility f and that what you give back will have to match what you have received. Humbly consider that you are a useless servant admitted by grace to serve a master whose greatness exceeds you infinitely.
Concluons. Let us conclude.
Ce qui est vraiment important, ce n’est pas de savoir combien on a reçu de talents et combien ils vont en rapporter. Ce qui importe, c’est ce que notre gestion révèle de notre relation à Dieu : sommes-nous des serviteurs fidèles qui font confiance à un maître aimé et respecté ? ou des serviteurs soupçonneux qui se défient d’un maître redouté et méprisé en même temps ? The really important thing is not how many talents one has received and how many more these talents will yield.
What matters is what our management reveals about our relationship with God : are we faithful servants who trust a beloved and respected master ? or suspicious servants who distrust a feared and despised master ?
Quelque chose qui peut aider à convertir notre image de Dieu : se concentrer sur les serviteurs bons et fiables plutôt que sur le serviteur mauvais et indigne de confiance. Et entendre le maître leur dire : « serviteur bon et fiable, entre dans la joie de ton maître ». Something that can help convert our image of God : to focus on the good and reliable servants rather than on the bad and untrustworthy servant. And hear the master say to them : "good and reliable servant, enter into the joy of your master".
La joie de Dieu, mes amis, çà doit être quelque chose. The joy of God, my friends, that must be something.

「天の国はまた次のようにたとえられる。ある人が旅行に出かけるとき、僕たちを呼んで、自分の財産を預けた。 14 « En effet, il en va comme d’un homme qui, partant en voyage, appela ses serviteurs et leur confia ses biens. 14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
それぞれの力に応じて、一人には五タラントン、一人には二タラントン、もう一人には一タラントンを預けて旅に出かけた。早速、 15 À l’un il remit cinq talents, à un autre deux, à un autre un seul, à chacun selon ses capacités ; puis il partit. Aussitôt 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one ; to every man according to his several ability ; and straightway took his journey.
五タラントン預かった者は出て行き、それで商売をして、ほかに五タラントンをもうけた。 16 celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents s’en alla les faire valoir et en gagna cinq autres. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
同じように、二タラントン預かった者も、ほかに二タラントンをもうけた。 17 De même celui des deux talents en gagna deux autres. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
しかし、一タラントン預かった者は、出て行って穴を掘り、主人の金を隠しておいた。 18 Mais celui qui n’en avait reçu qu’un s’en alla creuser un trou dans la terre et y cacha l’argent de son maître. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.
さて、かなり日がたってから、僕たちの主人が帰って来て、彼らと清算を始めた。 19 Longtemps après, arrive le maître de ces serviteurs, et il règle ses comptes avec eux. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
まず、五タラントン預かった者が進み出て、ほかの五タラントンを差し出して言った。『御主人様、五タラントンお預けになりましたが、御覧ください。ほかに五タラントンもうけました。』 20 Celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents s’avança et en présenta cinq autres, en disant : ‹ Maître, tu m’avais confié cinq talents ; voici cinq autres talents que j’ai gagnés.› 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents : behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
主人は言った。『忠実な良い僕だ。よくやった。お前は少しのものに忠実であったから、多くのものを管理させよう。主人と一緒に喜んでくれ。』 21 Son maître lui dit : ‹ C’est bien, bon et fidèle serviteur, tu as été fidèle en peu de choses, sur beaucoup je t’établirai ; viens te réjouir avec ton maître.› 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant : thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things : enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
次に、二タラントン預かった者も進み出て言った。『御主人様、二タラントンお預けになりましたが、御覧ください。ほかに二タラントンもうけました。』 22 Celui des deux talents s’avança à son tour et dit : ‹Maître, tu m’avais confié deux talents ; voici deux autres talents que j’ai gagnés.› 22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents : behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
主人は言った。『忠実な良い僕だ。よくやった。お前は少しのものに忠実であったから、多くのものを管理させよう。主人と一緒に喜んでくれ。』 23 Son maître lui dit : ‹C’est bien, bon et fidèle serviteur, tu as été fidèle en peu de choses, sur beaucoup je t’établirai ; viens te réjouir avec ton maître.› 23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant ; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things : enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
ところで、一タラントン預かった者も進み出て言った。『御主人様、あなたは蒔かない所から刈り取り、散らさない所からかき集められる厳しい方だと知っていましたので、 24 S’avançant à son tour, celui qui avait reçu un seul talent dit : ‹Maître, je savais que tu es un homme dur : tu moissonnes où tu n’as pas semé, tu ramasses où tu n’as pas répandu ; 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed :
恐ろしくなり、出かけて行って、あなたのタラントンを地の中に隠しておきました。御覧ください。これがあなたのお金です。』 25 par peur, je suis allé cacher ton talent dans la terre : le voici, tu as ton bien. › 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth : lo, there thou hast that is thine.
主人は答えた。『怠け者の悪い僕だ。わたしが蒔かない所から刈り取り、散らさない所からかき集めることを知っていたのか。 26 Mais son maître lui répondit : ‹ Mauvais serviteur, timoré ! Tu savais que je moissonne où je n’ai pas semé et que je ramasse où je n’ai rien répandu. 26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed :
それなら、わたしの金を銀行に入れておくべきであった。そうしておけば、帰って来たとき、利息付きで返してもらえたのに。 27 Il te fallait donc placer mon argent chez les banquiers : à mon retour, j’aurais recouvré mon bien avec un intérêt. 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
さあ、そのタラントンをこの男から取り上げて、十タラントン持っている者に与えよ。 28 Retirez-lui donc son talent et donnez-le à celui qui a les dix talents. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
だれでも持っている人は更に与えられて豊かになるが、持っていない人は持っているものまでも取り上げられる。 29 Car à tout homme qui a, l’on donnera et il sera dans la surabondance ; mais à celui qui n’a pas, même ce qu’il a lui sera retiré. 29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance : but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath
この役に立たない僕を外の暗闇に追い出せ。そこで泣きわめいて歯ぎしりするだろう。』」 30 Quant à ce serviteur bon à rien, jetez-le dans les ténèbres du dehors : là seront les pleurs et les grincements de dents.› 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness : there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
