| Mes amis, en ce mercredi de la première semaine de Carême dans l’Église catholique latine [1], Jésus tance ses contemporains : « pourquoi ne vous convertissez vous pas à ma prédication, alors que les païens de Ninive se sont convertis à celle de Jonas ? ». « Et pourtant il y a ici plus que Jonas », ajoute-t-il. | 皆様、ラテン系カトリック教会における四旬節の第1週の水曜日 [2]、イエスは同時代の人々をこう非難されます。「ニネベの異教徒たちはヨナの説教によって改心したのに、なぜあなたがたは私の説教によって改心しないのか」。そして、「しかし、ここにはヨナ以上のものがある」と付け加えられます。 | My friends, on this Wednesday in the first week of Lent in the Latin Catholic Church [3], Jesus denounces his contemporaries : "why don’t you convert to my preaching, while the pagans of Nineveh have converted to the one of Jonah ? ". “And yet there is more here than Jonas,” he adds. |

| J’ai imaginé Jonas arrivant aux portes de Ninive. Ses vêtements sont couverts d’algues, ses cheveux ont blanchi pendant ces trois nuits d’épouvante dans le ventre du monstre marin. | 私は、ヨナがニネベの門に到着する姿を想像してみました。彼の服は海藻で覆われ、海の怪物の腹の中で過ごしたあの三晩の恐怖の間に、髪は真っ白になっていました。 | I imagined Jonah arriving at the gates of Nineveh. His clothes are covered with seaweed, his hair has turned white during those three nights of horror in the belly of the sea monster. |
| Jonas se présente maintenant devant Ninive avec sa chair marquée par cette expérience : sa voix, son attitude, sa façon de marcher, de regarder autour de lui, tout cela indique un homme qui a traversé quelque chose de terrible. | ヨナは今、その体験によって刻まれた痕跡を身にまとってニネベの前に現れます。彼の声、態度、歩き方、周囲を見渡す様子――これらすべてが、恐ろしい体験を乗り越えてきた一人の男であることを物語っていました。 | Jonah now comes before Nineveh with his flesh marked by this experience : his voice, his attitude, his way of walking, of looking around him, all this indicated a man who had gone through something terrible. |
| Alors, les Ninivites ont perçu quelle puissance terrifiante il annonçait, et ils se sont convertis au Dieu des Juifs. | そこでニネベの人々は、彼が予告した恐るべき力を目の当たりにし、ユダヤ人の神に改宗したのです。 | So the Ninevites saw what terrifying power he foretold, and they converted to the God of the Jews. |
| Mes amis, il faut nous demander quelle est l’apparence de Jésus après trois jours passés dans la mort ? Quelle est cette expérience qui a marqué sa chair ? Comment résonne sa voix et d’où provient-elle ? En quoi la puissance dont il témoigne est-elle terrible ? | 友よ、私たちは自問しなければなりません。死のなかに三日間を過ごした後のイエスは、どのような姿をしているのでしょうか。その肉体に刻まれた経験とは何なのでしょうか。その声はどのように響き、どこから発せられているのでしょうか。彼が告げ、示している力は、どれほど恐ろしいものなのでしょうか。 | My friends, we have to ask ourselves how Jesus looks like after three days spent in death. What is this experience that marked his flesh ? How does his voice sound and where does it come from ? How terrible is the power he is announcing and showing ? |
| À nous de voir par nous-mêmes. | それを自らの目で確かめるのは、私たち次第なのです。 | It is up to us to see for ourselves. |

| 群衆の数がますます増えてきたので、イエスは話し始められた。「今の時代の者たちはよこしまだ。しるしを欲しがるが、ヨナのしるしのほかには、しるしは与えられない。 | 29 Comme les foules s’amassaient, il se mit à dire : « Cette génération est une génération mauvaise ; elle demande un signe ! En fait de signe, il ne lui en sera pas donné d’autre que le signe de Jonas. | 29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation : they seek a sign ; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. |
| つまり、ヨナがニネベの人々に対してしるしとなったように、人の子も今の時代の者たちに対してしるしとなる。 | 30 Car, de même que Jonas fut un signe pour les gens de Ninive, de même aussi le Fils de l’homme en sera un pour cette génération. | 30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation. |
| 南の国の女王は、裁きの時、今の時代の者たちと一緒に立ち上がり、彼らを罪に定めるであろう。この女王はソロモンの知恵を聞くために、地の果てから来たからである。ここに、ソロモンにまさるものがある。 | 31 Lors du jugement, la reine du Midi se lèvera avec les hommes de cette génération et elle les condamnera, car elle est venue du bout du monde pour écouter la sagesse de Salomon ; eh bien ! ici il y a plus que Salomon. | 31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them : for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon ; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. |
| また、ニネベの人々は裁きの時、今の時代の者たちと一緒に立ち上がり、彼らを罪に定めるであろう。ニネベの人々は、ヨナの説教を聞いて悔い改めたからである。ここに、ヨナにまさるものがある。」 | 32 Lors du jugement, les hommes de Ninive se lèveront avec cette génération et ils la condamneront, car ils se sont convertis à la prédication de Jonas ; eh bien ! ici il y a plus que Jonas. | 32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it : for they repented at the preaching of Jonas ; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. |
