À mon avis, l’envoi des Apôtres constitue avec la vie de la première communauté chrétienne les deux inspirations majeures de saint Dominique, le fondateur au treizième siècle de l’Ordre des prêcheurs. Dominique et ses frères vivaient ensemble avec une seule visée : prêcher. In my opinion, the sending of the Apostles constitutes with the life of the first Christian community the two major inspirations of Saint Dominic, the founder in the thirteenth century of the Order of Preachers. Dominic and his brothers lived together with one goal : to preach.
Mais comment prêcher et que prêcher ? But how to preach and what to preach ?
Comment prêcher ? How to preach ?
De ce que je comprends de l’Evangile d’aujourd’hui [1], l’apôtre prêche à la hauteur de ceux à qui il est envoyé. Il s’expose à visage découvert, dans sa fragilité mais aussi dans la force de sa confiance en Dieu. Intermédiaire entre ses interlocuteurs et le Christ, l’apôtre leur laisse le dernier mot : il propose et ils disposent. L’apôtre en retour accepte le pain de ceux qui l’accueillent, devenant solidaire d’eux sous le regard de Dieu. From what I understand from today’s gospel [2], the apostle preaches up to those to whom he is sent. He exposes himself with his face uncovered, in his fragility but also in the strength of his trust in God. Intermediary between his interlocutors and Christ, the apostle leaves them the last word : he proposes and they dispose. The apostle in return accepts the bread of those who welcome him, becoming united with them under the gaze of God.
Que prêcher ? What to preach ?
Mais quoi d’autre que le Royaume de Dieu. C’est ce que fit Jean le Baptiste au commencement : « Le Royaume de Dieu est proche, convertissez-vous - ou repentez-vous - ». C’est ce que fit Jésus au début de son ministère, et c’est ce qu’il a fait, une fois ressuscité [3]. What else if not the Kingdom of God. This is what John the Baptist did in the beginning : "The Kingdom of God is near, convert - or repent -". This is what Jesus did at the beginning of his ministry, and this is what he has done when he was resuscitated [4]
Le Royaume de Dieu est à portée de la main «  at hand » dit une traduction anglaise. Il suffit de tendre la main, et on l’atteint. The Kingdom of God is « at hand". You just have to reach your hand out, and you reach it.
Mais d’abord, est-ce que je désire tendre la main vers le Royaume de Dieu ? Cela dépend de l’image que l’on en a. Pour moi, le Royaume de Dieu est ce monde mais purifié, transfiguré, débarrassé de tout ce qui l’abîme, c’est ce monde exprimant à chaque instant et toujours plus la bonté intrinsèque qui l’anime et qui vient du Dieu créateur, sans rien qui lui fasse obstacle. But first, do I want to reach out to the Kingdom of God ? It depends on the image you have of it. For me, the Kingdom of God is this world but purified, transfigured, rid of all that spoils it, it is this world expressing at every moment and ever more the intrinsic goodness which animates it and which comes from the Creator God, without anything to stand in the way.
C’est un monde où l’humanité est réconciliée avec elle-même et avec le reste de la création, une humanité qui est aussi réconciliée avec Celui qui tout a suscité par amour. It is a world where humanity is reconciled with itself and with the rest of creation, a humanity that is also reconciled with the One who created everything out of love.
C’est un monde où Dieu vient à la brise du soir rencontrer Adam et Eve, ce sont Adam et Eve qui viennent vers Lui tout contents comme savent l’être les enfants, et qui lui disent ce qu’ils ont fait dans la journée. Et ils lui montrent les merveilleux fruits que la création a portés avec leur assistance – et c’est en retour le sourire qui éclaire la face de Dieu et fait frémir d’aise Adam et Eve, et toute la création avec eux. It is a world where God comes in the evening breeze to meet Adam and Eve, it is Adam and Eve who come to Him as happy as children can be, and who tell him what they did during the day. And they show him the wonderful fruits that creation bore with their assistance - and it is in return the smile that lights up the face of God and makes Adam and Eve shudder, and all the creation with them.
C’est entendu, le Royaume de Dieu est désirable, mais est-ce si facile que cela de tendre la main vers lui ? « Y a qu’à », « Faut qu’on ». Facile à dire, pas facile à faire. Granted, the Kingdom of God is desirable, but is it that easy to reach our hand out to it ? Easy to say, not easy to do.
Tant de choses font que nous ne sentons ni capables ni autorisés à tendre la main vers lui, la main qui a pris la forme du poing et de la griffe pour accaparer et pour frapper, plutôt que la main qui s’ouvre pour donner et caresser. Et c’est cette main qui se tendrait vers le Royaume de Dieu ? So many things make us feel neither able nor authorized to reach our hand out to it, the hand that has taken the form of a fist and claw to grab and strike, rather than the hand that opens to give and stroke. . And is this the hand that would reach out to the Kingdom of God ?
Non, décidément, l’homme est trop malade pour pouvoir entrer dans le Royaume de Dieu, et ce quelle que soit la force de son désir de conversion. No, definitely no, man is too sick to be able to enter the Kingdom of God, however strong his desire for conversion may be.
Oui, seulement si la prédication est la même, les prédicateurs sont différents. Quand Jésus appelle à la conversion, au repentir, il donne aussi la force de le faire, à la différence de Jean : le baptême du Christ purifie le cœur, ce que ne sait pas faire le baptême de Jean qui lave seulement en surface. Yes, but if the preaching is the same, the preachers are different. When Jesus calls for conversion, for repentance, he also gives the strength to do so, unlike John : the baptism of Christ purifies the heart , which does not know how to do the baptism of John who washes only on the surface
« Ouvre ta main, je la prendrai dans la mienne et je la guérirai ». “Open your hand, and I will take it in mine and I will heal it”

病人を癒やし、死者を生き返らせ、規定の病を患っている人を清め、悪霊を追い出しなさい。ただで受けたのだから、ただで与えなさい。 8 Guérissez les malades, ressuscitez les morts, purifiez les lépreux, chassez les démons. Vous avez reçu gratuitement, donnez gratuitement. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils : freely ye have received, freely give.
帯の中に金貨も銀貨も銅貨も入れてはならない。 9 « Ne vous procurez ni or, ni argent, ni monnaie à mettre dans vos ceintures, 9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
旅には袋も二枚の下着も、履物も杖も持って行ってはならない。働く者が食べ物を受けるのは当然である。 10 ni sac pour la route, ni deux tuniques, ni sandales ni bâton, car l’ouvrier a droit à sa nourriture. 10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves : for the workman is worthy of his meat.
町や村に入ったら、そこで誰がふさわしい人かを調べて、旅立つときまで、その人のもとにとどまりなさい。 11 Dans quelque ville ou village que vous entriez, informez-vous pour savoir qui est digne de vous recevoir et demeurez là jusqu’à votre départ. 11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy ; and there abide till ye go thence.
その家に入ったら、『平和があるように』と挨拶しなさい。 12 En entrant dans la maison, saluez-la ; 12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.
その家がふさわしければ、あなたがたの願う平和がそこを訪れるようにしなさい。ふさわしくなければ、その平和があなたがたに返って来るようにしなさい。 13 si cette maison en est digne, que votre paix vienne sur elle ; mais si elle n’en est pas digne, que votre paix revienne à vous. 13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it : but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
あなたがたを受け入れず、あなたがたの言葉に耳を傾けようともしない者がいれば、その家や町を出て行くとき、足の埃を払い落としなさい。 14 Si l’on ne vous accueille pas et si l’on n’écoute pas vos paroles, en quittant cette maison ou cette ville, secouez la poussière de vos pieds. 14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
よく言っておく。裁きの日には、この町よりもソドムとゴモラの地のほうが軽い罰で済む。」 15 En vérité, je vous le déclare : au jour du jugement, le pays de Sodome et de Gomorrhe sera traité avec moins de rigueur que cette ville. 15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
