Voir Matthieu 13,44-46 - Matthew 13:44-46
| Mes amis, l’évangile d’aujourd’hui [1] me pose une question : ai-je trouvé quelque chose qui me donne envie de donner tout ce que j’ai pour entrer en sa possession ? Et ai-je vraiment tout donné ? | My friends, today’s gospel [2] is raising a question : have I found something that makes me want to give all I have to enter in its possession ? And did I really give it my all ? |
| Si je sais répondre à cette question, alors, d’après l’évangile, je commence à savoir ce que signifie le Royaume de Dieu. | If I can answer this question, according to the gospel I begin to understand what the Kingdom of God stands for. |
| À y regarder de plus près, cette réalité qui fait passer ma vie à un régime supérieur, qui lui donne une intensité, une profondeur, une richesse plus grandes, ce n’est pas une chose, c’est une personne, et la première question devient la suivante : « Y a-t-il quelqu’un dans ma vie ? ». | On closer inspection, this reality which takes my life to a higher level, which gives it a greater intensity, depth and richness, is not a thing but a person, and the first question becomes : "Is there someone in my life ?" ". |
| Quelqu’un qui éveille le meilleur de moi-même, quelqu’un qui me pousse à me dépasser ? Quelqu’un qui me fait entrer dans une vie partagée où plus je donne et plus je reçois – et plus je reçois et plus je donne ? | Someone who brings the best out of me, someone who pushes me to surpass myself ? Someone who brings me into a shared life where the more I give the more I receive - and the more I receive the more I give ? |
| Dans l’évangile, l’échange est total dès le début : le dénicheur de trésor vend tout ce qu’il a et achète le champ ; le négociant en perles vend tout ce qu’il a et acquiert la perle fine qu’il désire. | In the gospel, the exchange is total from the start : the treasure-finder sells everything he has and buys the field ; the pearl trader sells everything he has and acquires the fine pearl. |
| Et c’est ce qui s’est passé dans la réalité pour un saint personnage du troisième siècle, Antoine du désert : entrant dans une église, il a entendu le conseil de Jésus au jeune homme riche : | This is what happened in reality to a third-century holy character, Antony of the Desert : entering a church, he heard the advice of Jesus to the rich young man : |
| « Si tu veux être parfait, va, vends ce que tu possèdes, donne-le aux pauvres, et tu auras un trésor dans les cieux. Puis viens, suis-moi ! » [3], et aussitôt il a vendu tous ses biens. | « If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven : and come and follow me. » [4] and immediately he sold all his possessions. |
| Nous avons reçu comme Antoine le même appel à tout donner dans sa radicalité exigeante, mais nous ne sommes pas tous capables d’y répondre aussi rapidement que lui. | Like Antony, we have received the same radical and demanding call to give everything, but we are not all able to respond to it as quickly as he did. |
| Peut-être craignons-nous que le trésor soit du toc, que la perle rare soit fausse. | Perhaps we fear that the treasure is junk, that the rare pearl is fake. |
| Nous pouvons penser à ces paysans américains du XIXe siècle convaincus par leur prophète de l’avènement plénier du Royaume de Dieu à une date précise proche. Enthousiasmés, ils avaient vendu leurs terres et étaient partis sur les routes annoncer la fin du monde. | We can think of those American peasants of the XIX th convinced by their prophet of the full advent of the Kingdom of God at a very close date. They had enthusiastically sold their land and left on the roads to announce the end of the world |
| Bien entendu, leur élan de ferveur artificiel s’écroula quand la date fatidique fut dépassée. | Of course, their artificial outburst of fervor collapsed when the fateful date passed. |
| Sans doute n’avons-nous pas envie de connaître une telle désillusion. | . We probably don’t want to experience such a disillusionment. |
| Et même si ce trésor ou cette perle sont vrais, nous pouvons nous demander si leur valeur l’emporte si largement que cela sur les trésors et les perles que nous avons déjà. | And even if the treasure or the pearl is real, we can wonder whether its value outweigh in such a great scale the treasures and pearls we already have. |
| Pour nous convaincre, Jésus va cheminer avec nous comme il l’a fait avec les apôtres. En chemin, en temps voulu, il nous donnera les grâces de lumière supplémentaires dont nous avons besoin. | To convince us, Jesus will walk with us as he did with the apostles. Along the way, in due time, he will give us the additional graces of light that we need. |
| et peu à peu nous ouvrirons notre main pour lâcher nos biens terrestres - et recevoir en échange les biens célestes | and little by little we will open our hand to let go of our earthly belongings - to receive heavenly goods in exchange |
| Et nous ne serons plus jamais seuls : nous aurons Quelqu’un dans notre vie et dans notre mort. | And we will never be alone again : we will have Someone in our life and in our death. |

| 「天の国は次のようにたとえられる。畑に宝が隠されている。見つけた人は、そのまま隠しておき、喜びながら帰り、持ち物をすっかり売り払って、その畑を買う。 | 44 « Le Royaume des cieux est comparable à un trésor qui était caché dans un champ et qu’un homme a découvert : il le cache à nouveau et, dans sa joie, il s’en va, met en vente tout ce qu’il a et il achète ce champ. | 44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field ; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. |
| また、天の国は次のようにたとえられる。商人が良い真珠を探している。 | 45 Le Royaume des cieux est encore comparable à un marchand qui cherchait des perles fines. | 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls : |
| 高価な真珠を一つ見つけると、出かけて行って持ち物をすっかり売り払い、それを買う。 | 46 Ayant trouvé une perle de grand prix, il s’en est allé vendre tout ce qu’il avait et il l’a achetée. | 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. |
