| Isaïe appelait Jérusalem à frayer un chemin plat dans le désert pour le retour des déportés après l’Exil (587 av. J.C), Jean entend ce travail de terrassement comme une démarche de conversion qui prépare les cœurs à la venue du Messie. | I saiah called Jerusalem to level a path in the desert for the return of the deportees after the Exile (587 B.C.) ; John understands this earthwork as a conversion process that prepares hearts for the coming of the Messiah. |
| Selon moi en effet, Jean parle d’une géographie du cœur plus que d’une géographie physique : les ravins renvoient à la peur, l’angoisse, le désespoir, tandis que les collines désignent la haine, le ressentiment, la jalousie, l’avidité, l’orgueil hautain. Ces obstacles bloquent le chemin, ils empêchent la communion, la rencontre avec les autres et avec le Tout-autre. | In my opinion, John deals with a geography of the heart rather than with a physical geography : the ravines refer to fear, anguish, despair, while the hills indicate hatred, resentment, jealousy, greed, haughty pride. | Tout à fait. Vous n’y arriverez pas tout seuls – mais vous n’êtes pas tout seuls. Commencez à déplacer la terre et les pierres, même si c’est en vain à vue humaine. Dieu verra vos humbles efforts et il œuvrera de son côté. | You are quite right : you cannot do it alone - but you’re not alone. Start moving the earth and the stones, even if it’s in vain to human eyes. God will see your humble efforts and he will work on his side. |

Alors la gloire du SEIGNEUR sera dévoilée et tous les êtres de chair ensemble verront que la bouche du SEIGNEUR a parlé. »
