| Chers amis, nous croyons en un grand mystère [1] : Jésus Christ est mort pour enlever nos péchés et il est ressuscité pour nous ouvrir le chemin de la vie éternelle [2]. | Dear friends, we believe in a great mystery [3] : Jesus Christ died to take away our sins and he rose again to open the way to eternal life for us [4]. |
| En avançant dans la compréhension de ce mystère qui passe par son inscription concrète dans notre existence, nous découvrons son ampleur qui dépasse tout ce que nous pouvons imaginer et nous sommes attirés toujours plus loin, toujours plus haut [5]. | As we progress in our understanding of this mystery through its concrete inscription in our existence, we discover its magnitude, which exceeds all that we can imagine, and we are drawn ever further, ever higher [6] |

| Qui est cet homme surgi de nulle part, qui opère des guérisons et des exorcismes comme on n’en a jamais vu ? D’où lui vient cette façon de parler de Dieu comme s’il le connaissait personnellement, et bien plus que la Torah, la Loi ? Qui est-il, celui-là qui domine la mort comme il a dominé la mer [9] ? | Who is this man who appears out of nowhere, performing healings and exorcisms like no one has ever seen before ? Where does he get this way of speaking about God as if he knew him personally, and much more than the Law ? Who is this one who dominates the sea [10] - figure of death that Jesus overcame by his resurrection ? |
| Cette question nous lancine parce qu’elle met en jeu l’aspiration profonde au bonheur et à la vie commune à toute la création. | This question challenges us because it involves the deepest aspiration to life and happiness shared by the whole of creation. |
| Est-ce lui qui établira enfin le droit et la vérité sur la terre ? Est-ce lui qui libérera la création de l’esclavage de la mort et du mal ? Est-ce lui qui nous réconciliera avec nos compagnons humains et non humains, avec nous-mêmes et avec Dieu ? | Is he the one who will finally establish right and truth on earth ? Is he the one who will free creation from the bondage of death and evil ? Is he the one who will reconcile us with our fellow humans and non-humans, with ourselves and with God ? |
| Est-ce lui le Messie attendu pour la fin des temps, le plénipotentiaire de Dieu qui vient instaurer le Royaume de Dieu où règneront la paix, la justice, la vérité et l’amour véritables pour toujours ? | Is he the expected Messiah for the end of time, the plenipotentiary of God who comes to establish the Kingdom of God where true peace, justice, truth and love will reign forever ? |
| Les apôtres se sont posés la question tout au long de leur cheminement avec Jésus. Un jour, Jésus a estimé qu’ils étaient prêts et il les a interrogés : « pour vous, qui suis-je ? ». | The apostles asked themselves this question throughout their journey with Jesus. One day Jesus felt they were ready and asked them : "Who am I to you ? |
| Je crois qu’à ce moment, Simon-Pierre a reçu une révélation intérieure où tous les évènements vécus avec Jésus se sont emboîtés les uns dans les autres, telles les pièces d’un puzzle. Simon-Pierre, poussé par une force irrépressible, s’est alors écrié : « mais bien sûr, tu es le Messie, le Fils de Dieu, et çà explique tout » [11]. | I believe that at that moment Simon Peter received an inner revelation in which all the events he had experienced with Jesus fitted together like pieces of a puzzle. | Mes amis, nous aussi nous avons à porter la question : « Qui est cet homme ? », nous aussi nous avons à progresser dans notre saisie du mystère de la personne de Jésus. Baptisés, nous pouvons nous appuyer sur les Écritures, sur l’Église, sur l’Esprit saint, sur le Ressuscité qui nous accompagne au long de notre histoire [14]. | My friends, we too have to endure the question : "Who is this man ?” we too have to grow in our grasp of the mystery of the person of Jesus. Baptized, we can rely on the Scriptures, on the Church, on the Holy Spirit, on the Risen One who accompanies us throughout our history [15]. |

Alors, avec l’apôtre Thomas, nous tombons à genoux avec ce cri irrépressible jaillissant du cœur : « Mon Seigneur et mon Dieu », avant de nous relever pour vite annoncer au monde entier la bonne nouvelle : « Christ est ressuscité, il est vraiment ressuscité, et tout s’explique, tout a du sens, tout fait sens ». | Then we catch a glimpse of the power of life that unfolds from the risen Christ. Then, with the Apostle Thomas, we fall to our knees with this irrepressible cry from our hearts : "My Lord and my God", before rising again to quickly announce the good news to the whole world : "Christ is risen, he is truly risen, and everything makes sense. |
