Il y avait à table, appuyé contre Jésus, l’un de ses disciples, celui que Jésus aimait. Simon-Pierre lui fait signe de demander à Jésus de qui il veut parler. Le disciple se penche donc sur la poitrine de Jésus et lui dit : « Seigneur, qui est-ce ? »

At the table, leaning against Jesus, was one of his disciples, the one whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter signalled to him to ask Jesus whom he meant. So the disciple leaned back against Jesus’ chest and said to him, ‘Lord, who is it ?’

Je vous prendrai du milieu des nations, je vous rassemblerai de tous les pays, je vous conduirai dans votre terre. Je répandrai sur vous une eau pure, et vous serez purifiés ; de toutes vos souillures, de toutes vos idoles, je vous purifierai. Je vous donnerai un cœur nouveau, je mettrai en vous un esprit nouveau. J’ôterai de votre chair le cœur de pierre, je vous donnerai un cœur de chair.

Moi, je suis le bon pasteur, le vrai berger, qui donne sa vie pour ses brebis. Le berger mercenaire n’est pas le pasteur, les brebis ne sont pas à lui : s’il voit venir le loup, il abandonne les brebis et s’enfuit ; le loup s’en empare et les disperse. Ce berger n’est qu’un mercenaire, et les brebis ne comptent pas vraiment pour lui.

La parole du Seigneur me fut adressée : « Fils d’homme, prophétise contre les bergers d’Israël, prophétise. Tu leur diras : Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu : Quel malheur pour les bergers d’Israël qui sont bergers pour eux-mêmes ! N’est-ce pas pour les brebis qu’ils sont bergers ? Vous, au contraire, vous buvez leur lait, vous vous êtes habillés avec leur laine, vous égorgez les brebis grasses, vous n’êtes pas bergers pour le troupeau. Vous n’avez pas rendu des forces à la brebis chétive, soigné celle qui était malade, pansé celle qui était blessée. Vous n’avez pas ramené la brebis égarée, cherché celle qui était perdue. Mais vous les avez gouvernées avec violence et dureté.
Elles se sont dispersées, faute de berger, pour devenir la proie de toutes les bêtes sauvages. Mon troupeau s’égare sur toutes les montagnes et toutes les collines élevées ; mes brebis sont dispersées dans tout le pays, personne ne les cherche, personne ne part à leur recherche.

I am the good shepherd, the true shepherd, who lays down his life for his sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd ; the sheep are not his : if he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and flees ; the wolf snatches them and scatters them. Such a shepherd is merely a hired hand, and the sheep do not really matter to him.

The word of the Lord came to me : ‘Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel ; prophesy. Say to them : Thus says the Lord God : Woe to the shepherds of Israel who tend only themselves ! Are they not supposed to tend the flock ? Yet you drink their milk, clothe yourselves in their wool, slaughter the fat sheep, but you do not tend the flock. You have not strengthened the feeble ewe, tended the sick, or bandaged the injured. You have not brought back the strayed ewe, nor sought out the lost one. Instead, you have ruled over them with violence and harshness.
They have been scattered, for lack of a shepherd, and have become prey to all the wild beasts. My flock is scattered over all the mountains and every high hill ; my sheep are scattered throughout the land, and no one seeks them out, no one goes in search of them.
