Dans cet évangile [1], Jésus rappelle le rôle unique des disciples du Christ.	この福音書の箇所 [2]において、イエスはキリストの弟子たちの独自の役割を想起させている。	In this Gospel passage [3], Jesus recalls the unique role of Christ's disciples.
John Whitcroft, en 1630, dans son sermon adressé aux pèlerins fuyant la persécution religieuse en Angleterre, les exhortait à fonder dans ce qui allait devenir la Nouvelle Angleterre la city upon a hill, l'anglais pour la cité sur la montagne [4]. John Whitcroft citait Jésus et, avant lui, Isaïe qui parlait de la cité sur le mont Sion appelée à dominer toutes les autres cités [5].	1630年、イングランドでの宗教的迫害から逃れてきた巡礼者たちに向けた説教の中で、ジョン・ウィットクロフトは、後にニューイングランドとなる地に、「丘の上の都」――山の上の都を意味する英語表現――を築くよう彼らに呼びかけた [6]。ジョン・ウィットクロフトはイエスの言葉を引用し、さらにその前に、他のすべての都よりも高くそびえ立つ運命にあるシオンの山の上の都について語ったイザヤの言葉を引用した [7]。	In 1630, in his sermon addressed to pilgrims fleeing religious persecution in England, John Whitcroft urged them to establish, in what would become New England, the city upon a hill, the English term for the city on the mountain [8]. John Whitcroft quoted Jesus and, before him, Isaiah, who spoke of the city on Mount Zion destined to tower above all other cities [9]
Évitons ici un orgueil déplacé : les disciples du Christ sont la lumière pour le monde dans la mesure où ils la reçoivent et où ils la transmettent, et non en tant qu'ils la produiraient. Le Christ seul est la vraie lumière, qui, en venant dans le monde, illumine tout homme.	ここで、見当違いの誇りに陥らないよう気をつけよう。キリストの弟子たちは、自ら光を創り出すからではなく、それを受け取り、それを伝えるという点において、世の光なのである。キリストこそが真の光であり、この世に来られたことによって、すべての人を照らすのである。	Let us guard against misplaced pride here : Christ's disciples are the light of the world insofar as they receive it and pass it on, and not because they produce it. Christ alone is the true light, who, by coming into the world, enlightens every person.
Cela dit, les disciples ont un rôle à jouer de leur côté : ouvrir leur cœur pour recevoir la lumière et ensuite, la transmettre, autrement dit accepter de la laisser briller en dehors d'eux. Chaque disciple colore cette lumière par sa personnalité propre, un peu comme chaque pièce en verre d'un vitrail colore la lumière qui la traverse en fonction de sa couleur propre.	とはいえ、弟子たちにも果たすべき役割がある。それは、心を開いて光を受け入れ、それを伝えること、言い換えれば、自分たちの内側からその光を輝かせることだ。ステンドグラスの一枚一枚が、通り抜ける光をそれぞれの色で彩るように、弟子一人ひとりがこの光を自らの個性で彩るのだ。	That said, the disciples have a role to play of their own : to open their hearts to receive the light and then to pass it on ; in other words, to allow it to shine out from within them. Each disciple colours this light with their own personality, much as each piece of glass in a stained-glass window colours the light passing through it according to its own colour.
Et l'avertissement pour le sel vaut aussi pour la lumière : gare à nous si nous ne voulons pas être traversés par cette lumière, si nous la recouvrons au lieu de la rayonner, de la transmettre.	そして、塩に関する警告は光にも当てはまる。もしこの光が自分を通して通り抜けることを許さず、輝かせて伝える代わりにそれを覆い隠してしまうなら、私たちには災いが降りかかるだろう。	And the warning about salt also applies to the light : woe betide us if we do not allow this light to pass through us, if we cover it up instead of letting it shine and passing it on.
Il vaut aussi pour la cité sur la montagne : elle ne doit pas être cachée, et elle doit rendre un bon témoignage de Dieu : elle doit briller aux yeux des hommes par la concorde intérieure, par la joie de travailler ensemble, chacun exprimant les talents qu'il a reçu dans le souci du bien commun et de la justice. Alors les autres cités, envieuses de sa paix et de sa vitalité, se joindront à elle dans l'obéissance et la louange de Dieu.	これは「丘の上の町」にも当てはまる。町は隠されてはならず、前向きな形で神を証ししなければならない。すなわち、内なる調和や共に働く喜びを通じて、人々の目に輝き、一人ひとりが共通の善と正義のために与えられた才能を発揮しなければならないのだ。そうすれば、その平和と活力を羨む他の町々も、神への従順と賛美をもって、その町に加わることになるだろう。	It also applies to the city on the hill : it must not be hidden, and it must bear witness to God in a positive way : it must shine in the eyes of men through inner harmony, through the joy of working together, with each person expressing the talents they have received for the sake of the common good and justice. Then the other cities, envious of its peace and vitality, will join it in obedience to and praise of God.
Mais malheur à cette cité si elle se comporte comme les cités païennes, devenant ainsi pire qu'elles conformément à l'adage latin : « corruptio optima, pessima », la corruption du meilleur donne le pire. Chacun cherche son propre intérêt sans égard pour le reste de la communauté, le plus habile exploite le moins malin, le juge se laisse corrompre par les puissants et les influents tandis qu'à l'extérieur la cité mène la guerre contre les cités qui résistent à sa politique de prédation [10].	しかし、もしその都市が異教の都市のように振る舞い、それによってそれらよりも悪くなってしまったなら、その都市には災いが降りかかるだろう。ラテン語の格言にある通り、「corruptio optima, pessima」、すなわち「最善の腐敗は最悪をもたらす」のである。誰もが共同体の他の成員を顧みることなく、自らの利益のみを追求する。最も狡猾な者は、それほど賢くない者を搾取し、裁判官は権力者や有力者からの賄賂を受け入れる。その一方で、表向きには、その都市は自らの略奪的な政策に抵抗する他の都市に対して戦争を仕掛けるのだ [11]。	But woe betide that city if it behaves like the pagan cities, thereby becoming worse than they, in accordance with the Latin adage : ‘corruptio optima, pessima ', the corruption of the best brings about the worst. Everyone pursues their own interests without regard for the rest of the community ; the most cunning exploit the less shrewd ; the judge allows himself to be bribed by the powerful and influential ; whilst, externally, the city wages war against those cities that resist its predatory policies [12].
Malheureuse la cité qui devait donner aux nations païennes le désir de connaître Dieu, et qui, lieu de cela, a déshonoré son saint nom et obscurci sa gloire. Alors les passants passeront leur chemin devant elle en hochant la tête.	異教の諸国に神を求めるよう促すべきだったこの都市は、かえって神の聖なる御名を汚し、その栄光を曇らせてしまった。それゆえ、通りすがりの人々は首を横に振りながら、その前を通り過ぎていくのだ。]]	Woe betide the city that was meant to inspire the pagan nations to seek God, and which, instead, has dishonoured His holy name and dimmed His glory. Thus, passers-by will walk past it, shaking their heads.
Pour celui qui a changé sa lumière intérieure en obscurité, combien grande est la ténèbre dans laquelle il se trouve [13].	内なる光を闇へと変えてしまった者たちにとって、彼らが陥っている闇はなんと深いことか [14]。	For those who have turned their inner light into darkness, how great is the darkness in which they find themselves [15].

そのように、あなたがたの光を人々の前に輝かしなさい。人々が、あなたがたの立派な行いを見て、あなたがたの天の父をあがめるようになるためである。」	16 De même, que votre lumière brille aux yeux des hommes, pour qu'en voyant vos bonnes actions ils rendent gloire à votre Père qui est aux cieux.	16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Aussi, comme la paille est dévorée par le feu et comme le chaume disparaît dans la flamme, ils pourriront par la racine et leur fleur s'en ira en poussière, car ils ont rejeté l'instruction du SEIGNEUR le tout-puissant, ils ont méprisé la parole du Saint d'Israël.

En ce 15 août [1] où nous célébrons l'Assomption de la Vierge Marie, je commenterai le tableau de Nicolas Poussin en faisant deux remarques.	8月15日 [2]聖母被昇天を祝うこの日に、ニコラ・プッサンの絵画について、2つの観点から考察を述べたい。	On this 15 August [3], as we celebrate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, I shall comment on Nicolas Poussin's painting by making two observations.
Marie est soulevée au ciel par des anges à ses pieds. Marie, qui est une créature et qui plus est une créature terrestre, a besoin de créatures célestes pour monter au ciel, tandis Jésus, vrai homme et aussi vrai Dieu, monte au ciel sans l'aide d'aucune créature. C'est pourquoi l'Église célèbre l'Assomption et non l'Ascension de Marie, l'Ascension étant réservée à son divin Fils.	マリアは、足元に立つ天使たちによって天へと引き上げられている。被造物であり、しかも地上の被造物であるマリアは、天に昇るために天の被造物の助けを必要とする。一方、真の人であり、かつ真の神であるイエスは、いかなる被造物の助けも借りずに天に昇る。だからこそ、教会はマリアの「被昇天」を祝うのであり、「昇天」を祝うのではない。昇天は、彼女の神なる御子にのみ留保されているからだ。	Mary is lifted up to heaven by angels at her feet. Mary, who is a creature—and, moreover, an earthly creature—needs heavenly creatures to ascend to heaven, whereas Jesus, true man and also true God, ascends to heaven without the help of any creature. This is why the Church celebrates the Assumption and not the Ascension of Mary, the Ascension being reserved for her divine Son.
Je me suis aussi demandé jusqu'où les anges pouvaient faire monter Marie. En tant que créatures ils peuvent s'approcher de Dieu, mais pas faire partie de lui, donc Marie pourra bien être élevée au plus haut de la hiérarchie des créatures, elle pourra bien se trouver au plus près de Dieu, au point de dépasser les anges les plus élevés en proximité avec Dieu, elle ne montera pas à l'intérieur de la sphère divine, à la différence du Verbe incarné, de Jésus, qui « retrouve » si l'on peut dire la place qu'il avait auprès du Père avant son Incarnation.	また、天使たちはマリアをどこまで持ち上げることができるのかとも考えた。被造物である天使たちは、神に近づくことはできても、神の一部になることはできない。したがって、マリアは被造物の階層の頂点にまで引き上げられるかもしれないし、神に最も近い存在となり、神への近さにおいて最も高い位の天使たちさえも凌駕するかもしれない。しかし、彼女は神の領域へと昇ることはない。これとは対照的に、受肉した御言葉であるイエスは、いわば、受肉前に父と共にいた場所を「取り戻す」のである。	I also wondered how far the angels could raise Mary. As creatures, they can draw near to God but cannot become part of him ; therefore, whilst Mary may well be raised to the very top of the hierarchy of creatures, she may well find herself closest to God, to the point of surpassing even the highest angels in their proximity to God ; yet she will not ascend into the divine sphere, unlike the Incarnate Word, Jesus, who, so to speak, ‘regains' the place he held with the Father before his Incarnation.
Ma seconde remarque porte sur l'image de la montée au ciel. Le cosmonaute soviétique Youri Gargarine (1934-1968) aurait dit à son retour sur terre en 1961 : « Je suis allé dans l'espace, mais n'ai pas rencontré Dieu ». De fait, l'être humain pourra aller aussi haut qu'il voudra, il ne rencontrera pas Dieu : Dieu n'est pas une divinité siégeant sur un mont Olympe au-dessus des mortels, on ne peut lui assigner une position dans l'espace et dans le temps car il est à l'origine de l'espace et du temps.	第二の論点は、天への昇天というイメージに関するものだ。ソ連の宇宙飛行士ユーリ・ガガーリン（1934–1968）は、1961年に地球に帰還した際、「私は宇宙に行ったが、神には出会わなかった」と述べたと言われている。確かに、人間がどれほど高く昇ろうとも、神に出会うことはない。神は、人間より高いオリンポス山に座する神ではない。神は空間と時間の源そのものであるため、空間や時間の中に位置を割り当てることはできないのだ。	My second point concerns the image of the ascent to heaven. The Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin (1934–1968) is said to have remarked on his return to Earth in 1961 : ‘I went into space, but I did not meet God'. Indeed, however high a human being may go, they will not meet God : God is not a deity seated on Mount Olympus above mortals ; He cannot be assigned a position in space and time, for He is the source of space and time.
Saint Augustin m' a fait comprendre que ce que nous décrivons comme un déplacement dans l'espace est en fait un changement d'état. Il disait cela à propos du péché qui ne nous a pas éloignés de Dieu, mais plutôt qui nous a rendus étrangers à lui : alors que Dieu nous avait créés à son image et ressemblance, le péché nous a fait perdre notre familiarité avec Dieu en altérant notre ressemblance avec lui – Augustin dira que le péché nous a entraînés dans la « région de la dissemblance ».	聖アウグスティヌスは、私たちが「空間を通る移動」と呼ぶものが、実際には「状態の変化」であることを理解する手助けをしてくれた。彼はこれを罪に関連付けて語った。罪は私たちを神から遠ざけたのではなく、むしろ神にとっての「見知らぬ者」にしてしまったのだ。神は私たちを御自身の像と似姿として創造したが、罪は私たちと神との似姿を変容させることで、神との親しみを失わせた――アウグスティヌスなら、罪は私たちを「非類似の領域」へと引き込んだと言うだろう。	St Augustine helped me to understand that what we describe as movement through space is in fact a change of state. He said this in relation to sin, which has not distanced us from God, but rather made us strangers to him : whilst God created us in his image and likeness, sin has caused us to lose our familiarity with God by altering our likeness to him – Augustine would say that sin has drawn us into the ‘region of dissimilarity'.
Alors certes nous avons besoin de l'image de la montée au ciel, aussi bien pour l'Assomption de la Vierge Marie que de l'Ascension de notre Seigneur, nous qui percevons la réalité d'abord par les sens – vue, ouïe, toucher, goût, odorat et kinesthésie, mais sachons que l'image de la montée au ciel est l'approximation d'un mystère autrement plus merveilleux : en gardant la Parole de Dieu, en lui obéissant et en nous gardant de lui désobéir, nous faisons l'expérience transformante qu'a faite Marie, l'expérience de vibrer toujours plus à la fréquence divine, l'expérience de la conformation toujours plus grande à la volonté du Père et l'expérience d'une ressemblance toujours plus grande au modèle divin.	だから当然、私たち――視覚、聴覚、触覚、味覚、嗅覚、そして運動感覚といった感覚を通じて何よりもまず現実を捉える私たち――には、聖母マリアの被昇天であれ、主の昇天であれ、天への昇りゆくイメージが必要だ。しかし、天への昇りゆくイメージは、はるかに驚くべき神秘の単なる近似に過ぎないことを認識しよう。神の御言葉を守り、神に従い、神に背くことのないよう自らを戒めることによって、私たちはマリアと同じ変容の旅路を経験するのだ。それは、神の周波数とますます深く共鳴する経験であり、父の御心にますます調和していく経験であり、神の模範にますます似ていく経験である。	So, of course, we need the image of the ascent to heaven – whether for the Assumption of the Virgin Mary or the Ascension of our Lord – we who perceive reality first and foremost through the senses : sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell and kinesthesia ; but let us recognise that the image of the ascent to heaven is merely an approximation of a mystery that is far more marvellous : by keeping the Word of God, by obeying Him and by guarding ourselves against disobeying Him, we experience the same transformative journey as Mary did : the experience of resonating ever more deeply with the divine frequency, the experience of ever greater conformity to the Father's will, and the experience of ever greater likeness to the divine model.
Et cela fera notre bonheur éternel.	そして、これこそが私たちの永遠の幸福となるのだ。	And this will be our eternal happiness.

« Pour vous, ne vous faites pas appeler maître car vous n'avez qu'un seul maître et vous êtes tous frères ».	「あなたがたは、だれにも『先生』と言ってはならない。あなたがたにはただ一人の師しかおらず、あなたがたは皆、兄弟だからだ。」	‘As for you, do not call anyone “teacher”, for you have only one Teacher, and you are all brothers.'
Dans l'évangile d'aujourd'hui [1], Jésus utilise le mot « maître » au sens non pas de maître d'école ou d'université mais au sens de maître de vie, en allemand Lebensmeister.	今日の福音 [2] で、イエスは「師」という言葉を、学校や大学の教師という意味ではなく、人生の師、ドイツ語で Lebensmeister という意味で使っている。	In today's Gospel [3], Jesus uses the word ‘master' not in the sense of a school or university teacher, but in the sense of a master of life, in German Lebensmeister.
Il s'agit d'apprendre aux hommes à bien vivre, à vivre en étant vraiment heureux : rien moins que faire la volonté de Dieu et passer de l'ordre du créé à l'ordre de l'incréé.	それは、人々に正しく生き、真の幸福の中で生きることを教えることである。すなわち、神の御心を行い、被造物の秩序から非被造物の秩序へと移ること、それ以外の何ものでもない。	It is a matter of teaching people to live well, to live in true happiness : nothing less than doing God's will and passing from the order of the created to the order of the uncreated.
Jésus ne nous dit pas comment va le ciel - l'astronomie relève du savoir humain - mais comment on va au ciel – et cela, seul Dieu peut nous l'enseigner [4]	イエスは、天がどのように機能するかについては語らない――天文学は人間の知識の範疇である――が、いかにして天国へ至るかについては語る。そしてこれこそ、神のみが私たちに教えることができるのだ [5]	Jesus does not tell us how the heavens work – astronomy is a matter for human knowledge – but how one goes to heaven – and this, only God can teach us [6]
Et l'être humain ne peut accéder à cet enseignement pour deux raisons : comme créature, il ne peut accéder de lui-même l'ordre du Créateur – l'empêchement est ici ontologique, essentiel –. Qui plus est, comme créature traversée par la faille du péché, il est dans l'incapacité de répondre totalement à l'amour de Dieu – l'empêchement est ici moral et lié à la faute originelle. Seul le Christ peut nous faire accéder à la dimension divine à travers ses paroles humaines, reprises et animées par l'Esprit saint.	そして、人間がこの教えにアクセスできない理由は二つある。被造物として、自らの意思だけで創造主の秩序に入ることはできない――ここでの障害は存在論的、本質的なものである。さらに、罪の汚れにまみれた被造物として、神の愛に完全に応えることはできない――ここでの障害は道徳的であり、原罪と結びついている。キリストのみが、聖霊によって受け継がれ、生かされたその人間的な言葉を通じて、私たちに神聖な次元へのアクセスを授けることができる。	And human beings cannot access this teaching for two reasons : as creatures, they cannot, of their own accord, enter the order of the Creator – the impediment here is ontological, essential. Moreover, as a creature marred by the stain of sin, they are incapable of responding fully to God's love – the impediment here is moral and linked to original sin. Only Christ can grant us access to the divine dimension through his human words, taken up and brought to life by the Holy Spirit.

Interroge l'époux et non le professeur, Dieu et non l'homme.	知識よりも恵みに、知性よりもあなたの最も深い霊感に、読書への情熱よりも祈りの嘆きに耳を傾けよ。教師よりも花婿に、人間よりも神に尋ねよ。	Consult grace rather than knowledge, your deepest inspiration rather than your intellect, the groaning of your prayer rather than your passion for reading. Consult the Bridegroom rather than the teacher, God rather than man.
Je rejoins totalement le frère franciscain Bonaventure, fils de l'Ordre de saint François d'Assise : attendre d'un simple mortel ce qui relève de l'immortalité, ou encore attendre du créé ce qui relève de l'incréé, cela a un nom dans la Bible, cela s'appelle l'idolâtrie. Seul Dieu parle bien de Dieu.	私は、アッシジの聖フランシスコ修道会の息子であるフランシスコ会修道士ボナヴェントゥラに心から同意する。不死のものに属するものを単なる人間に期待すること、あるいは被造物に属するものを非被造物に属するものに期待することは、聖書において一つの名称を持っている――それは偶像崇拝と呼ばれる。神について真に語れるのは神のみである。	I wholeheartedly agree with the Franciscan friar Bonaventure, a son of the Order of St Francis of Assisi : to expect from a mere mortal that which belongs to immortality, or to expect from the created that which belongs to the uncreated, has a name in the Bible—it is called idolatry. Only God speaks truly of God.
En même temps comme fils de l'Ordre de saint Dominique, j'apprécie la raison et ses productions humaines, quand elle reconnaît ses limites. Les êtres humains s'émerveillaient de voir se refléter dans les flaques d'eau, les étangs et les mers un corps lumineux qui brille dans la nuit. Un jour, l'un d'entre eux, on ne sait pas pourquoi, a levé les yeux et il a vu dans le ciel un point lumineux, très lumineux, c'était la lune. One day, one of them—for reasons unknown—looked up and saw in the sky a point of light, a very bright one : it was the moon. He realised that everything he had been seeing in the water was merely a reflection of that luminous celestial body.

D'autres ont regardé le doigt, levé la tête pour regarder vers quoi il pointait et ils ont vu eux aussi la lune.	ある者は心の中で思った。「一体彼に何が起きたんだ？　腕がつったのか？」他の人々は彼の指を見つめ、彼が何を指し示しているのか確かめるために顔を上げ、彼らもまた月を見た。	Some thought to themselves : ‘What on earth is got into him ? Has he got a cramp in his arm ?' Others looked at his finger, raised their heads to see what he was pointing at, and they too saw the moon.
Pour moi, l'être humain qui a fait une expérience de Dieu peut se servir des mots humains pour permettre à d'autres êtres humains de rencontrer Dieu eux aussi. Son savoir dit son expérience mais il n'est pas l'expérience elle-même, il agit seulement comme un doigt qui pointe. Vers le haut. Vers une autre dimension.	私にとって、神を体験した人間は、他の人間もまた神と出会えるようにするために、人間の言葉を用いることができる。その知識は体験を表しているが、体験そのものではない。それは単に指し示す指のような役割を果たすだけだ。上を指し示す。別の次元へと。	For me, a human being who has experienced God can use human words to enable other human beings to encounter God too. Their knowledge expresses their experience, but it is not the experience itself ; it acts merely as a pointing finger. Pointing upwards. Towards another dimension.

J'entends dans l'évangile [1] une sorte de transaction. Jésus nous demande de mettre en jeu notre vie, autrement dit, ce que nous avons de plus précieux. Je veux bien perdre ma vie, mais qu'est-ce que je gagne en échange ?	「福音書にはある種のトレードオフがあるように感じる。イエスは私たちに、自分の命――つまり、私たちが持つ最も大切なものを賭けるよう求めている。私は自分の命を失う覚悟はあるが、その見返りに何を得られるのだろうか？	‘I sense a kind of trade-off in the Gospel. Jesus is asking us to stake our lives – in other words, the most precious thing we have. I'm willing to lose my life, but what do I get in return ?
La réponse de Jésus est simple : tu perds TA vie, et en échange, tu gagnes LA vie.	イエスの答えは単純だ。自分の命を失う代わりに、その命を得るのだ。	Jesus's answer is simple : you lose YOUR life, and in return, you gain THE life.
MA vie.	私の命。	MY life.
- Ma vie, celle dont je veux être le seul maître à bord, celle que je veux contrôler, parce que je ne veux pas qu'elle m'échappe, celle où je veux aller où je veux et quand je veux.	- 私の命――私が唯一の主人でありたいと願う命、自分の手から滑り落ちないようにと支配したいと願う命、好きな時に好きな場所へ行きたいと願う命。	- My life – the one over which I want to be the sole master, the one I want to control, because I don't want it to slip from my grasp, the one where I want to go wherever I want, whenever I want.

Ma vie, ma vie, la mienne, à moi. Une vie centrée sur moi, où le monde tourne autour de moi, où l'horizon de toute chose c'est moi, moi, et encore moi. Moi, seul, seul face au monde à qui je fais la guerre parce qu'il me résiste. Ma vie, gravitant autour d'un trou noir qui attire tout à lui sans rien laisser sortir.	私の人生、私の人生、まさに私だけの人生だ。私を中心とした人生。世界が私の周りを回り、万物の地平線は私、私、そしてまた私である。私、ただ一人、私に対抗する世界に立ち向かい、戦いを繰り広げる。私の人生は、何も逃がさずすべてを自らへと引き寄せるブラックホールの周りを回っている。	My life, my life, my very own. La vie, celle qui ne m'appartient pas, celle qui m'est donnée en partage, celle que je partage avec d'autres. Avec, ensemble, à louer Dieu, à le servir, dans et avec la création toute entière.	人生とは、私のものではないもの、分かち合うために私に与えられたもの、私が他者と分かち合うものだ。彼らと共に、全被造物の中で、そして全被造物と共に、神を賛美し、神に仕えるために。	Life, the one that does not belong to me, the one that is given to me to share, the one I share with others. With them, together, to praise God, to serve Him, in and with the whole of creation.
La vie, gravitant autour d'un soleil, dispensant libéralement lumière et chaleur. La vie, croissant toujours plus en intensité et en extensivité, jusqu'à ressembler au soleil, jusqu'à faire partie du soleil.	光と温もりを惜しみなく注ぐ太陽の周りを回る命。その強度と広がりを増し続け、やがて太陽に似て、太陽の一部となる命。	Life, revolving round a sun, generously bestowing light and warmth. Life, growing ever more in intensity and scope, until it resembles the sun, until it becomes part of the sun.
Voilà les termes de la transaction que Jésus me propose : perdre sa vie pour gagner la vie.	これこそが、イエスが私に提示する取引の条件だ。すなわち、その命を得るために、自分の命を失うということだ。	These are the terms of the bargain that Jesus offers me : to lose my life in order to gain the life.
J'entre bien dans cette image, il est vrai, très binaire, du soleil et du trou noir. Et je reconnais que ma vie tourne, certes, autour de ce trou noir, mais aussi, il ne faut pas exagérer, un peu autour du soleil. Et c'est vrai que j'ai envie de tourner seulement autour du soleil, mais comment me libérer de l'attraction du trou noir ? Comment me libérer de l'attrait pour le mal qui me traverse comme il traverse l'humanité entière depuis la faute originelle ?	私は、この――確かに極めて二元論的な――太陽とブラックホールのイメージに確かに当てはまる。そして、私の人生が確かにこのブラックホールの周りを回っていることは認めるが、同時に――大げさに言うつもりはないが――少しばかりは太陽の周りも回っている。確かに私は太陽だけを周りたいと願っているが、どうすればブラックホールの引力から自分を解き放つことができるだろうか。堕落以来、人類全体を貫いてきたのと同じように、私の中を貫く悪の誘惑から、どうすれば自分を解き放つことができるだろうか？	I do fit into this image—admittedly a very binary one—of the sun and the black hole. And I recognise that my life does, certainly, revolve around this black hole, but also—let's not exaggerate—a little around the sun. And it's true that I want to revolve solely around the sun, but how can I free myself from the black hole's gravitational pull ? How can I free myself from the allure of evil that runs through me, just as it has run through the whole of humanity since the Fall ?
Et Jésus de me répondre : c'est dans la puissance de la croix que tu trouveras la force de te libérer, les extra-boosters, les propulseurs supplémentaires qui vont te permettre d'échapper à l'attraction du corps mort.	するとイエスは答えた。「十字架の力の中にこそ、自分を解き放つ力――すなわち、死体の引力から逃れることを可能にする『追加ブースター』、つまりさらなる推進力――が見出せるのだ。」	And Jesus replied, ‘It is in the power of the cross that you will find the strength to set yourself free—the extra-boosters, the additional propulsion that will enable you to escape the pull of the dead body.'
Le crois-tu ? Amen, je crois. Viens, et suis-moi.	これを信じるか？　アーメン、私は信じる。さあ、私に従って来い。	Do you believe this ? Amen, I do. Come, and follow me.

Mes amis, aujourd'hui [1], Jésus tance ses contemporains : « pourquoi ne vous convertissez vous pas à ma prédication, alors que les païens de Ninive se sont convertis à celle de Jonas ? ». « Et pourtant il y a ici plus que Jonas », ajoute-t-il. Essayons de voir en quoi la prédication de Jésus surpasse-t-elle celle de Jonas ?	My friends, today [2], Jesus rebukes his contemporaries : ‘Why do you not turn to the truth of my message, when even the pagans of Nineveh turned to the message of Jonah ?' ‘And yet there is more here than Jonah,' he adds. Let us try to see in what way Jesus' preaching surpasses that of Jonah.	皆様、本日 [3]、イエスは同時代の人々をこう叱責されます。「ニネベの異教徒たちでさえヨナの説教に心を向けたというのに、なぜあなたがたは私の説教の真理に心を向けないのですか？」そして、「しかし、ここにはヨナ以上のものがあるのです」と付け加えられます。イエスの説教が、どのような点でヨナの説教を上回っているのか、考えてみましょう。
La prédication de Jonas est puissante : à peine a-t-il proclamé : « « Encore quarante jours et Ninive sera renversée » » que dès la première journée, hommes et bêtes font pénitence : le bouche à oreille a été tel qu'une journée a suffi pour que la proclamation de Jonas atteigne toute la ville, alors qu'il aurait fallu trois jours. Jonah's preaching is powerful : no sooner had he proclaimed, ‘Forty days more and Nineveh will be overthrown', than from the very first day, both people and animals began to do penance : word spread so quickly that it took just one day for Jonah's proclamation to reach the whole city, whereas it would normally have taken three days. D'où vient la puissance de la proclamation de Jonas ? pour moi, elle vient des trois jours et trois nuits qu'il a vécu dans l'obscurité du ventre du gros poisson. Jonas se présente maintenant devant Ninive avec sa chair marquée par cette expérience.	Where does the power of Jonah's proclamation come from ? For me, it comes from the three days and three nights he spent in the darkness of the belly of the great fish. Je l'imagine arrivant aux portes de Ninive. His voice, his demeanour, the way he walks and looks around him—all this points to a man who has endured something terrible that is beyond human comprehension.	彼の声、その立ち居振る舞い、歩き方や周囲を見渡す様子――これらすべてが、人間の理解を超える恐ろしい体験を耐え抜いた一人の男であることを物語っています。
Alors, les Ninivites ont perçu quelle puissance terrifiante il annonçait, et ils se sont convertis au Dieu des Juifs.	Then the people of Nineveh realised what terrifying power he was proclaiming, and they turned to the God of the Jews.	そこで、ニネベの人々は、彼が宣べ伝えているのがどれほど恐ろしい力であるかを悟り、ユダヤ人の神に立ち返ったのです。
La proclamation de Jésus est bien plus puissante. Elle porte sur la création tout entière et elle inaugure la fin des temps : « Le temps est accompli, et le Règne de Dieu s'est approché : convertissez-vous et croyez à l'Évangile. [7] »	Jesus' proclamation is far more powerful. It concerns the whole of creation and heralds the end of the age : “The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand : repent and believe in the Gospel. Jésus n'a pas essayé de fuir sa mission, à la différence de Jonas, et si, comme Jonas, il remonte de l'abime, c'est de l'abime autrement plus profond de la mort.	Jesus did not try to flee from his mission, unlike Jonah, and if, like Jonah, he emerges from the depths, it is from the far deeper abyss of death.	イエスは、ヨナとは異なり、ご自身の使命から逃げようとはされませんでした。そして、もしイエスがヨナのように深みから現れたとするなら、それは死という、はるかに深い深淵からのことなのです。
Jésus ressuscité a autrement plus changé que Jonas régurgité : son corps est marqué par les plaies de la crucifixion, mais elles sont ruisselantes de lumière, tandis que son corps est devenu maintenant et pour toujours la porte vers la vie en Dieu, vers Dieu.	The risen Jesus has been transformed far more than Jonah was when he was spewed out : his body bears the wounds of the crucifixion, but they are streaming with light, whilst his body has now and for ever become the gateway to life in God, to God.	復活されたイエスは、ヨナが吐き出された時よりもはるかに大きく変容されています。その御体には十字架の傷跡が残っていますが、そこから光が溢れ出ており、その御体は今や、そして永遠に、神における命、そして神そのものへの入り口となっているのです。
Et sa voix reprend nos mots humains, en leur donnant une force de vie, de création, de relèvement, qui n'appartient qu'à Dieu. « Tes péchés sont pardonnés », « Va en paix », « Viens et suis-moi ».	And his voice takes up our human words, giving them a power of life, of creation, of restoration, which belongs to God alone. ‘Your sins are forgiven', ‘Go in peace', ‘Come and follow me'.	そして、イエスの御声は私たち人間の言葉を取り上げ、それらに、神のみに属する命の力、創造の力、回復の力を与えてくださいます。「あなたの罪は赦されました」、「平安のうちに去りなさい」、「来て、わたしに従いなさい」。

La parole du SEIGNEUR s'adressa une seconde fois à Jonas : 2 « Lève-toi, va à Ninive la grande ville et profère contre elle l'oracle que je te communiquerai. » 3 Jonas se leva et partit, mais - cette fois - pour Ninive, se conformant à la parole du SEIGNEUR. Or Ninive était devenue une ville excessivement grande : on mettait trois jours pour la traverser. 4 Jonas avait à peine marché une journée en proférant cet oracle : « Encore quarante jours et Ninive sera mise sens dessus dessous », 5 que déjà ses habitants croyaient en Dieu. Ils proclamèrent un jeûne et se revêtirent de sacs, des grands jusqu'aux petits. 6 La nouvelle parvint au roi de Ninive. Il se leva de son trône, fit glisser sa robe royale, se couvrit d'un sac, s'assit sur de la cendre, 7 proclama l'état d'alerte et fit annoncer dans Ninive : « Par décret du roi et de son gouvernement, interdiction est faite aux hommes et aux bêtes, au gros et au petit bétail, de goûter à quoi que ce soit ; interdiction est faite de paître et interdiction est faite de boire de l'eau. 8 Hommes et bêtes se couvriront de sacs, et ils invoqueront Dieu avec force. Chacun se convertira de son mauvais chemin et de la violence qui reste attachée à ses mains. 9 Qui sait ! peut-être Dieu se ravisera-t-il, reviendra-t-il sur sa décision et retirera-t-il sa menace ; ainsi nous ne périrons pas. » 10 Dieu vit leur réaction : ils revenaient de leur mauvais chemin. Aussi revint-il sur sa décision de leur faire le mal qu'il avait annoncé. Il ne le fit pas.

[5] Jonah 3:1–10

The word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time : 2 ‘Get up, go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I will give you.' 3 Jonah set out and went—this time to Nineveh—in obedience to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh had become an exceedingly large city : it took three days to cross it. 4 Jonah had barely been walking for a day, proclaiming this oracle : ‘Forty days more, and Nineveh will be overthrown', 5 when already its inhabitants believed in God. They proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least. 6 The news reached the king of Nineveh. He rose from his throne, took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, sat in ashes, 7 proclaimed a state of emergency and had the following announced throughout Nineveh : ‘By decree of the king and his government, it is forbidden for men and beasts, for large and small livestock, to eat anything ; it is forbidden to graze, and it is forbidden to drink water. 8 Men and beasts shall clothe themselves in sackcloth, and they shall call upon God with all their might. Everyone shall turn from their evil ways and from the violence still clinging to their hands. 9 Who knows ? Perhaps God will relent, reconsider his decision and withdraw his threat ; so we shall not perish.' 10 God saw their response : they were turning from their evil ways. So he relented from the harm he had threatened to bring upon them. He did not do it.

La sagesse africaine a donné à l'humanité la maxime suivante : « Un arbre qui tombe fait beaucoup de bruit, une forêt qui pousse ne fait pas de bruit ».	アフリカには、「倒れる木は、成長する森よりも大きな音を立てる」という格言があります。	There is an African maxim saying that « A falling tree makes more noise than a growing forest ».
Le méchant fait beaucoup de bruit, il se démène, il crie, il casse tout, mais au final il ne restera rien ni de lui ni de son œuvre : la terre qu'il a ravagée cicatrisera, les chants résonneront à nouveau, et on l'oubliera, lui et le vacarme qu'il a fait.	邪悪な人は大騒ぎをし、暴れ回り、叫び、あらゆるものを破壊しますが、結局のところ、彼とその行いの痕跡は何も残らないでしょう。大地は癒やされ、歌声は再び響き渡り、騒がしいその人物は忘れ去られるのです。	The wicked man makes a lot of noise, he goes on a rampage, he shouts, he breaks everything, but in the end nothing shall remain from him and his work : the earth will heal, the songs will be heard again, and the noisy guy will be forgotten.
Le méchant sait bien qu'il va perdre et c'est pourquoi il fait tant de bruit : il veut accaparer notre attention et nous empêcher de voir sa défaite inéluctable.	邪悪な者は、最終的に自分が敗北することをよく知っています。だからこそ、あれほど大騒ぎをするのです。私たちの注意を独占し、その避けられない敗北に気づかせないようにしたいのです。	The wicked man knows very well that he will lose in the end and that is why he makes so much noise : he wants to monopolize our attention and prevent us from seeing his inevitable defeat.
Parce que la défaite du mal est inscrite dès le début de la Bible : le monde a été créé fondamentalement bon par Dieu. Le mal survient ensuite, il peut salir et abîmer le bien mais il ne peut pas le détruire.	なぜなら、悪の敗北は聖書の冒頭からすでに記されているからです。世界は、神によって根本的に善として創造されました。悪はその後現れ、善を汚し傷つけることはできても、それを破壊することはできません。	Because the defeat of evil is written at the very beginning of the Bible : the world has been created good fundamentally by God. Evil arises afterwards, it can soil and damage good, but it cannot destroy it.
La défaite du mal est programmée en lui : l'ennemi ne peut que singer le maître, il ne peut agir que caché dans les ténèbres, et ce qu'il sème n'a qu'une puissance de nuisance car l'ennemi est incapable de créer, d'engendrer, de donner la vie, la joie, le bonheur.	悪は敗北する運命にあります。敵は主を真似るしかなく、闇に隠れてこそ行動でき、その蒔くものは迷惑をかける力しか持たず、命や喜び、幸福をもたらすことはできません。	Evil is programmed for defeat : the enemy can only ape the master, he can act only when hidden in darkness, and what he sows has only a power of nuisance and cannot bring life, joy, happiness.
Le mal a besoin du bien pour exister, le bien n'a pas besoin du mal pour exister et c'est pourquoi le mal gagne des batailles mais pas la guerre : il le sait et cela le rend fou de rage.	悪は存在するために善を必要としますが、善は存在するために悪を必要としません。だからこそ、悪は戦には勝っても、戦争には勝てないのです。悪はそれを知っており、それが悪を狂わせているのです。	Evil needs good to exist, good does not need evil to exist, that is why evil wins battles but not war. It knows it and it makes it mad.
L'autre leçon de l'Évangile d'aujourd'hui [1], c'est que nous pouvons juger des actes extérieurs d'un homme, mais non de ce qui se passe dans son cœur. Comme pour l'ivraie et le bon grain, les racines du bien et du mal sont tellement enchevêtrées dans le cœur de l'homme que seul Dieu peut les démêler.	今日の福音 [2]は、私たちに別の教訓を教えてくれます。すなわち、人の外見的な行いは判断できても、その心の内側までは判断できないということです。雑草と小麦の場合と同様に、善と悪の根は人の心の中で深く絡み合っており、それを解きほぐせるのは神のみなのです。	Today's Gospel [3] teaches us another lesson : we can judge the outward acts of a man but not what goes inside his heart. As with the tares and the wheat, the roots of good and evil are so tangled in the heart of man that only God can untangle them.
N'encensons donc pas trop vite des hommes au vu de leurs œuvres et de leurs discours, sinon nous risquons de déchanter quand l'actualité révèlera leurs zones d'ombre cachées. Inversement, ne prononçons pas de condamnations définitives en oubliant la puissance de conversion du Ressuscité : elle a transformé un persécuteur acharné de l'Église, Paul, en l'un de ses apôtres les plus éminents.	ですから、人の行いや言葉だけを見て、安易に称賛してはいけません。そうしなければ、ニュースによってその隠されたグレーな部分が明らかになったとき、幻滅してしまう危険があります。逆に、復活された方の回心の力を忘れて、最終的な断罪を下してはいけません。その力は、教会の執拗な迫害者であったパウロを、教会で最も傑出した使徒の一人へと変えたのです。	So let's not praise men too quickly in view of their works and their speeches, otherwise we risk becoming disillusioned when the news reveals their hidden gray areas. Conversely, let us not utter final condemnations while forgetting the power of conversion of the Risen One : it transformed a staunch persecutor of the Church, Paul, into one of its most eminent apostles.
A nous donc le jugement extérieur, mais à Dieu le jugement intérieur.	外見的な判断は私たちに委ねられていますが、内面的な判断は神に委ねられています。	The external judgment belongs to us, but the internal one belongs to God.

Mes amis, un étendard se lève avec une croix dessinée dessus. C'est le Christ, le général en chef qui appelle à le rejoindre. Le monde n'a pas encore exprimé toute la bonté que Dieu a mise en lui, l'ennemi mène encore un combat d'arrière-garde, alors :	友よ、十字架を掲げた旗が掲げられています。総司令官であるキリストが、ご自身に加わるよう呼びかけておられます。この世界は、神がそこに注ぎ込まれたすべての善をまだ現し切ってはおらず、敵は依然として後衛戦を繰り広げています。ですから：	My friends, there is a standard rising with a cross on it. The General-in-Chief Christ is calling to join him. The world has not yet expressed all the goodness that God put in it, and the enemy is still fighting a rearguard fight so :
Debout donc ! À la taille, la vérité pour ceinturon, avec la justice pour cuirasse et, comme chaussures aux pieds, l'élan pour annoncer l'Évangile de la paix. Prenez surtout le bouclier de la foi, il vous permettra d'éteindre tous les projectiles enflammés du Malin. Recevez enfin le casque du salut et le glaive de l'Esprit, c'est-à-dire la parole de Dieu [4]	それゆえ、真理をもって腰を締め、義の胸当てを身に着け、平和の福音の準備をもって足を履き、何よりもまず、信仰の盾を取りなさい。それによって、悪者の放つすべての燃えるような矢を消し去ることができるのです。また、救いの兜と、御霊の剣、すなわち神の御言葉とを取りなさい [5]	Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness ; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace ; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. La fête du Sacré-Cœur de Jésus [1] me fait penser au disciple qui reposait contre la poitrine de Jésus pendant la Cène [2].	「イエスの聖心の祝日」 [3]といえば、最後の晩餐の際にイエスの胸にもたれかかっていた弟子が思い浮かびます [4]。	The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus [5] reminds me of the disciple who was reclining against Jesus' breast during the Last Supper [6].
Imitons le disciple, reposons-nous contre la poitrine de Jésus et réglons les battements de notre cœur sur le sien. Alors nous ferons une double expérience.	その弟子のように、私たちもイエスの胸に寄りかかり、私たちの鼓動をイエスの鼓動と合わせましょう。そうすれば、私たちは二つの体験をすることができると私は信じています。	Like the disciple, let us rest against Jesus' chest and synchronise the beating of our hearts with his. Then, I believe, we shall have a twofold experience.
Nous éprouverons la régénération d'un cœur en train de se scléroser, de se durcir - sklérosis en grec signifie « durcissement » - : Jésus accomplit la prophétie d'Ezekiel [7], il est le Messie de la fin des temps envoyé par Dieu pour changer les cœurs de pierre en cœurs de chair, palpitant en syntonie avec le sien, partageant le même amour du Père et du monde, le même sentiment d'urgence devant ces brebis errant dans la nuit, tombant dans des ravins, succombant sous la dent de bêtes féroces, trahies par des faux pasteurs [8].	私たちは、硬化し、硬くなっていた心の再生を体験するでしょう――sklérosisはギリシャ語で「硬化」を意味します――：イエスはエゼキエルの預言を成就されるのです [9]、彼は、神によって遣わされた終わりの時のメシアであり、石の心を肉の心へと変え、イエスの心と調和して鼓動し、父と世界に対する同じ愛を分かち合い、偽りの羊飼いに裏切られ、夜の中をさまよい、渓谷に落ち、猛獣の牙に飲み込まれていくこれらの羊たちの哀れな光景を前にして、同じ切迫感を抱く者である [10].	We shall experience the regeneration of a heart that was becoming sclerotic, hardening – sklérosis in Greek means ‘hardening' – : Jesus fulfils the prophecy of Ezekiel [11], he is the Messiah of the end times sent by God to change hearts of stone into hearts of flesh, beating in harmony with the heart of Jesus, sharing the same love for the Father and for the world, the same sense of urgency in the face of the pitiful sight of these sheep betrayed by false shepherds, wandering in the night, falling into ravines, succumbing to the jaws of ferocious beasts [12].
En reposant contre la poitrine de Jésus, nous qui souvent n'arrivons pas à faire le bien que nous désirons et qui faisons le mal que nous ne voulons pas, nous éprouverons l'unification de notre cœur partagé, . Toute la personne, intelligence, volonté, affectivité – tête, cœur et entrailles -, se mobilise pour servir Dieu à la suite de Jésus. Avec lui, nous apprenons à dire « Oui » sans réserve :	私たちがイエスの胸に寄り添うとき、分裂した心が一つに結ばれる体験をします。私たちは、望む善を行うことにしばしば失敗し、望まない悪を行ってしまう者たちです。私たちの全存在――知性、意志、感情――頭、心、そして直感――が、イエスの足跡をたどり、神に仕えるために動員されるのです。イエスと共に、私たちはためらいなく「はい」と言うことを学びます。	As we rest against Jesus' breast, we experience the unification of our divided hearts—we who so often fail to do the good we desire and end up doing the evil we do not wish to do. Our whole being—intellect, will and emotions—head, heart and gut—is mobilised to serve God in the footsteps of Jesus. With him, we learn to say ‘Yes' without reservation :

Regénéré, unifié, le cœur se met à brûler d'une joie et d'un amour si intenses qu'ils menacent de le faire éclater, aussi s'écrit-il : « Stop, jusqu'ici et pas plus loin ! ». Et Dieu respecte l'injonction de ce cœur qui a atteint pour l'instant sa limite.	再生され、一つに結ばれた心は、まるで破裂しそうになるほど強烈な喜びと愛に燃え上がり、こう叫びます。「もう十分、これ以上は無理だ！」そして神は、その瞬間、限界に達したこの心の嘆願を尊重してくださいます。	Regenerated and unified, the heart begins to burn with such intense joy and love that they threaten to make it burst, so it cries out : ‘Stop, this far and no further !' And God respects the plea of this heart which has, for the moment, reached its limit.
Pour l'instant. Dieu a tout son temps.	その瞬間は。神は決して急がれることはありません。	For the moment. God is in no hurry.

At baptism, as the water flowed over his body, a word echoed in the heart of the person being baptised. “I baptise you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Thus a spiritual seed was sown in his soul, a seed of faith, hope and love. [1]	洗礼の際、水がその人の体に注がれるにつれ、洗礼を受ける人の心の中に一つの言葉が響き渡りました。「私は、父と子と聖霊の名によって、あなたに洗礼を授けます。」こうして、その人の魂に霊的な種が蒔かれたのです。それは、信仰と希望と愛の種でした。 [2]	Au baptême, tandis que l'eau coulait sur son corps, une parole résonnait dans le cœur du baptisé. « Je te baptise au nom du Père, du Fils et du Saint-Esprit. » Ainsi était semée une graine spirituelle dans son âme, une graine de foi, d'espérance et de charité. If the baptised person allows it, the seed will grow upwards and downwards and transform them, body and soul.	もし洗礼を受けた人がそれを許すならば、その種は上へと下へと伸び、その人の肉体と魂を変化させていくでしょう。	Si le baptisé la laisse faire, la graine va pousser vers le haut et vers le bas et transformer le baptisé, corps et âme.
The seed sinks its roots into the depths, the realm of darkness, of teeming life, of clay. The seed knows how to deal with the baptised person's emotions, their impulses, their dark side.	その種は、闇の領域、生命がうごめく領域、土の深みへと根を張ります。その種は、洗礼を受けた人の感情や衝動、そしてその人の暗い側面とどう向き合うべきかを知っています。	La graine pousse ses racines dans les profondeurs, le règne de l'obscur, du grouillant, du glaiseux. The seed sends its stem skywards, towards the sun. It knows how to pierce the hard soil of human reasoning to reach the divine light. The seed works, and so does the baptised person. Let them take care of their soul, for it is the soil in which the seed will grow.	その種は茎を天へと、太陽に向かって伸ばします。それは、神の光に届くために、人間の理性の硬い土壌を突き破る術を知っています。種が働くように、洗礼を受けた人もまた働きます。彼らが自らの魂を大切にするように、なぜなら、それは種が育つ土壌だからです。	La graine lance sa tige vers les hauteurs, vers le soleil. Then, with God's grace, the seed of faith, hope and charity will grow until it fills his whole life, encompassing it in all its dimensions : intellect, will and emotion. And it will expand it infinitely beyond anything the baptised person can imagine or hope for.	そうすれば、神の恵みによって、信仰、希望、愛の種は、その人の人生全体を満たすまで成長し、知性、意志、感情というあらゆる側面を包み込むことでしょう。そして、それは洗礼を受けた人が想像したり望んだりすることのできるあらゆるものをはるかに超えて、無限に広がっていくのです。	Alors avec la grâce de Dieu, la graine de foi, d'espérance et de charité poussera jusqu'à remplir toute sa vie, jusqu'à la reprendre dans toutes ses dimensions : l'intelligence, la volonté et l'affectivité. Like the tree of the cross, planted deep in the earth, it reaches to the highest heavens, and its foliage covers the entire universe.	大地に深く根を張った十字架の木のように、それは最も高い天へと伸び、その葉は全宇宙を覆うのです。	Comme l'arbre de la croix, planté au plus profond de la terre, il touche au plus haut du ciel, et son feuillage couvre l'univers entier.

土はひとりでに実を結ばせるのであり、まず茎、次に穂、そしてその穂には豊かな実ができる。	D'elle-même, la terre produit d'abord l'herbe, puis l'épi, enfin du blé plein l'épi.	28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself ; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.

Chers frères et sœurs [1], sachez-le, Dieu vous a doté d'une chose qui vous rend infiniment précieux : votre âme. Elle est plus précieuse que le plus précieux des diamants, et elle est faite pour resplendir plus qu'aucune étoile de ce monde quand la lumière de Dieu la traversera.	Dear brothers and sisters [2], know this : God has endowed you with something that makes you infinitely precious : your soul. It is more precious than the most precious of diamonds, and it is made to shine brighter than any star in this world when the light of God will shine through it.	親愛なる兄弟姉妹の皆さん [3]、どうかこのことを心に留めてください。神は、皆さんを無限に尊い存在とするものを授けてくださいました。それは、皆さんの「魂」です。それは、最も高価なダイヤモンドよりも尊く、神の光がそこを照らすとき、この世のどの星よりも明るく輝くように造られているのです。
Aussi devons-nous faire attention à notre âme : éviter les vices qui voilent son éclat et au contraire chercher les vertus qui le rehaussent. Et pour cela, nous avons le bon berger dont le sang nous lave de nos péchés.	We must therefore take care of our soul : avoiding the vices that dim its radiance and, on the contrary, seeking the virtues that enhance it. And for this, we have the Good Shepherd, whose blood washes away our sins.	それゆえ、私たちは自分の魂を大切にしなければなりません。その輝きを曇らせる悪徳を避け、逆に、その輝きを高める美徳を求めましょう。そしてそのために、私たちには善き羊飼いがいます。その血は私たちの罪を洗い流してくれるのです。
Gardons-nous de remettre notre âme dans d'autres mains que les siennes, et en particulier dans celles des prédateurs. Comme ils ne connaissent pas le mot de passe connu de Dieu seul, ils cherchent à passer par des entrées dérobées ou alors ils tentent de se faire ouvrir la porte par des subterfuges. À nous de leur faire échec avec l'Esprit de sagesse et de conseil reçu du Seigneur.	Let us guard against placing our soul in hands other than His, and in particular in those of predators. As they do not know the password known only to God, they seek to enter through hidden passages or else attempt to have the door opened to them through subterfuge. It is up to us to thwart them with the Spirit of wisdom and counsel received from the Lord.	私たちの魂を、主以外の者、とりわけ捕食者の手に委ねないよう警戒しましょう。彼らは神のみが知る合言葉を理解していないため、隠れた通路から侵入しようとしたり、あるいは策略を用いて扉を開けさせようと試みます。主から授かった知恵と助言の御霊によって、彼らを退けるのは私たち次第です。
La voix derrière la porte me trouble, ses propos provoquent de la peur, de l'énervement, ou bien elle déclenche en moi des alternances d'exaltation et de dépression ? C'est mauvais signe.	Does the voice behind the door unsettle me ; do its words provoke fear or irritation, or does it trigger in me alternating feelings of elation and depression ? That is a bad sign.	扉の向こうからの声が私を不安にさせるか。その言葉は恐怖や苛立ちを誘うか、あるいは高揚と落ち込みが交互に訪れるような感情を引き起こすか。それは悪い兆候である。
Au contraire, la voix pénètre directement dans mon cœur, ce qu'elle dit révèle une profonde et réelle intimité avec moi, elle m'apaise d'une paix qui dure, sans haut ni bas ? C'est bon signe.	On the contrary, does the voice penetrate directly into my heart ; does what it says reveal a deep and real intimacy with me ; does it soothe me with a lasting peace, without highs or lows ? That is a good sign.	それとは逆に、その声は私の心に直接響くか。その言葉は、私との深く真実な親密さを示しているか。浮き沈みなく、永続する平安をもって私を慰めてくれるか。それは良い兆候である。
Seul son Créateur peut prononcer les mots qui descendent au lieu le plus intime de sa créature. Au tombeau, Jésus n'a qu'à appeler Marie par son nom pour qu'elle reconnaisse le rabbi qui a les paroles de la vie éternelle, - mieux, Celui est la Parole de Vie éternelle.	Only his Creator can speak the words that reach the innermost part of his creature. At the tomb, Jesus need only call Mary by her name for her to recognise the Rabbi who has the words of eternal life—better still, He is the Word of eternal life.	被造物の最も奥底に届く言葉を語ることができるのは、その創造主だけである。墓の前で、イエスはただマリアを名指しで呼ぶだけで、彼女は永遠のいのちの言葉を持つラビを認めた――それどころか、イエスこそが永遠のいのちの御言葉そのものである。

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
門から入る者が羊飼いである。	2 Mais celui qui entre par la porte est le berger des brebis.	2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
門番は羊飼いには門を開き、羊はその声を聞き分ける。羊飼いは自分の羊の名を呼んで連れ出す。	3 Celui qui garde la porte lui ouvre, et les brebis écoutent sa voix ; les brebis qui lui appartiennent, il les appelle, chacune par son nom, et il les emmène dehors.	3 To him the porter openeth ; and the sheep hear his voice : and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
自分の羊をすべて連れ出すと、先頭に立って行く。羊はその声を知っているので、ついて行く。	4 Lorsqu'il les a toutes fait sortir, il marche à leur tête, et elles le suivent parce qu'elles connaissent sa voix.	4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him : for they know his voice.

L'Évangile de Jean se distingue des trois autres évangiles en particulier par sa « christologie descendante » : il part de l'intérieur de la Trinité pour ensuite faire descendre sur terre le Fils, la deuxième personne de la Trinité, alors que les évangiles synoptiques partent de Jésus sur terre pour l'élever ensuite au Ciel – christologie « ascendante ».	The Gospel of John differs from the other three Gospels in particular through its ‘descending Christology' : it begins within the Trinity and then brings the Son, the second person of the Trinity, down to earth, whereas the Synoptic Gospels begin with Jesus on earth and then raise him up to Heaven – ‘ascending' Christology.	ヨハネによる福音書は、とりわけその「降臨的キリスト論」において、他の三つの福音書とは異なっている。すなわち、この福音書は三位一体の内から始まり、三位一体の第二位格である御子を地上へと降ろすのに対し、共観福音書は地上のイエスから始まり、彼を天へと引き上げる――つまり「昇天的」キリスト論である。
Dans l'Évangile de Jean, le Verbe incarné Jésus Christ veut nous entraîner avec lui dans les hauteurs d'où il vient et où il retourne. Mais comment Dieu peut-il rejoindre des êtres humains enfermés dans une vision horizontale du monde : quand ce n'est pas la faim qui les obnubile comme cela se passe malheureusement dans les régions en proie à la guerre et à l'oppression, ce sont les images en boucle des media sociaux qui monopolisent les esprits dans les pays « riches »	In the Gospel of John, the Incarnate Word, Jesus Christ, wishes to draw us up with him to the heights from whence he came and to which he returns. But how can God reach human beings trapped in a horizontal view of the world : when it is not hunger that clouds their minds, as is unfortunately the case in regions ravaged by war and oppression, it is the endless loop of social media images that monopolise people's thoughts in ‘rich' countries	ヨハネによる福音書において、受肉した御言葉であるイエス・キリストは、私たちを、ご自身が来られた場所であり、また戻られる場所である高みへと、ご自身と共に引き上げたいと願っておられる。しかし、水平的な世界観に囚われた人間に、神はいかにして手を差し伸べられるだろうか。戦争や抑圧に荒廃した地域では残念ながら飢餓が人々の心を曇らせているが、いわゆる「豊かな」国々では、ソーシャルメディアの映像が延々と繰り返されることで人々の思考が独占されてしまうのだ。
Je parle en connaissance de cause, moi qui me suis couché à deux heures du matin après une session de doom scrolling - de « défilement funeste » de mini vidéos. « C'est la dernière vidéo après je me couche »… « Oui mais la suivante a l'air intéressante »… « Ok mais c'est la dernière », et ainsi de suite jusqu'à deux heures de matin. Résultat : je vais à la louange du matin déjà fatigué, mon cerveau est alourdi par le brouhaha de mots, d'images et les charges affectives qu'ils charrient et mon appétit pour le Ciel passe au second plan.	I speak from experience, having gone to bed at two in the morning after a session of doom scrolling through short videos. ‘This is the last video, then I'm going to bed'… ‘Yes, but the next one looks interesting'… “OK, but this is the last one,” and so on until two in the morning. The result : I go to morning praise already tired, my brain weighed down by the hubbub of words, images and the emotional baggage they carry, and my appetite for Heaven takes a back seat.	私は実体験からこう語る。ショート動画のドゥームスクロールに没頭し、午前2時にようやく寝床についたことがあるからだ。「これが最後の動画、それから寝るよ」……「うん、でも次の動画、面白そう」……「わかった、でもこれが最後だよ」……といった具合に、午前2時まで続く。その結果、朝の礼拝に行く頃にはすでに疲れ果て、言葉や映像、そしてそれらが運ぶ感情的な重荷の喧騒に脳が押しつぶされ、天国への渇望は後回しになってしまう。
Du temps de Jésus, les foules rassasiées au désert ne lèvent pas non plus les yeux vers le ciel : « On a un fournisseur de pain et de poissons sans limite, et qui est gratuit, ce serait pratique de l'avoir comme roi, enlevons-le de force » se disent-elles. Les foules veulent du pain et du poisson pour cette vie-ci, sans voir que se tient sous leurs yeux celui qui peut donner la nourriture pour la vie éternelle. Elles se sont focalisées sur l'aspect matériel de la multiplication des pains sans percevoir sa portée spirituelle.	In Jesus' day, the crowds fed in the desert didn't look up to heaven either : “We've got a supplier of bread and fish with no limits, and it's free ; it would be handy to have him as king, let's seize him by force,” they said to themselves. The crowds want bread and fish for this life, without seeing that standing before their very eyes is the One who can give the food for eternal life. They have focused on the material aspect of the multiplication of the loaves without perceiving its spiritual significance.	イエスの時代、荒野で食事を与えられた群衆もまた、天を見上げようとはしませんでした。「私たちには、無尽蔵のパンと魚を供給してくれる者がいて、しかも無料だ。彼を王にすれば便利だろう、力ずくで彼を捕らえよう」と、彼らは心の中でそう言ったのです。群衆はこの世のパンと魚を欲しがり、まさに目の前に、永遠のいのちの糧を与えることのできる方が立っておられることに気づいていません。彼らはパン増殖の物質的な側面ばかりに目を向け、その霊的な意義に気づいていなかった。
Comment faire lever les yeux des hommes vers le Ciel ? Comment faire pour les libérer du poids du péché qui les courbe vers la terre ? se demande Dieu. Et il a trouvé un moyen : l'élévation de son Fils sur la croix, afin que les hommes lèvent les yeux vers celui qu'ils ont mis en croix.	How can I make people lift their eyes to Heaven ? How can I free them from the weight of sin that bends them towards the earth ? God asks himself. And he found a way : the lifting up of his Son on the cross, so that men might lift their eyes to the one they had crucified.	どうすれば人々に天を見上げさせることができるだろうか。どうすれば、彼らを地へと引きずり下ろす罪の重荷から解放できるだろうか。神は自問された。そして神は一つの道を見出した。それは、御子を十字架に掲げることである。そうすれば、人々は自分たちが十字架につけたその方へと目を向けるようになるのだ。
« Et moi, quand j'aurai été élevé de terre, j'attirerai à moi tous les hommes. » Il signifiait par là de quel genre de mort il allait mourir. » [1]	“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. This he said, signifying what death he should die” [2]	「わたしは地上から上げられるとき、すべての人を自分のもとへ引き寄せよう。」イエスは、御自分がどのような死を遂げるかを示そうとして、こう言われたのである。 [3]

大勢の群衆が後を追った。イエスが病人たちになさったしるしを見たからである。	2 Une grande foule le suivait parce que les gens avaient vu les signes qu'il opérait sur les malades.	2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.
イエスは山に登り、弟子たちと一緒にそこにお座りになった。	3 C'est pourquoi Jésus gravit la montagne et s'y assit avec ses disciples.	3 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.
ユダヤ人の祭りである過越祭が近づいていた。	4 C'était peu avant la Pâque qui est la fête des Juifs.	4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.
イエスは目を上げ、大勢の群衆がご自分の方へ来るのを見て、フィリポに言われた。「どこでパンを買って来て、この人たちに食べさせようか。」	5 Or, ayant levé les yeux, Jésus vit une grande foule qui venait à lui. Il dit à Philippe : « Où achèterons-nous des pains pour qu'ils aient de quoi manger ? »	5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat ?
こう言ったのはフィリポを試みるためであって、ご自分では何をしようとしているか知っておられたのである。	6 En parlant ainsi il le mettait à l'épreuve ; il savait, quant à lui, ce qu'il allait faire.	6 And this he said to prove him : for he himself knew what he would do.
フィリポは、「めいめいが少しずつ食べたとしても、二百デナリオンのパンでは足りないでしょう」と答えた。	7 Philippe lui répondit : « Deux cents deniers de pain ne suffiraient pas pour que chacun reçoive un petit morceau. »	7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.
弟子の一人で、シモン・ペトロの兄弟アンデレが、イエスに言った。	8 Un de ses disciples, André, le frère de Simon-Pierre, lui dit :	8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him,
「ここに大麦のパン五つと魚二匹とを持っている少年がいます。けれども、こんなに大勢の人では、それが何になりましょう。」	9 « Il y a là un garçon qui possède cinq pains d'orge et deux petits poissons ; mais qu'est-ce que cela pour tant de gens ? »	9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes : but what are they among so many ?
イエスは、「人々を座らせなさい」と言われた。その場所には草が多かった。それで、人々は座った。その数はおよそ五千人であった。	10 Jésus dit : « Faites-les asseoir. » Il y avait beaucoup d'herbe à cet endroit. Ils s'assirent donc ; ils étaient environ cinq mille hommes.	10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
そこで、イエスはパンを取り、感謝の祈りを唱えてから、座っている人々に分け与えられた。また、魚も同じようにして、欲しいだけ分け与えられた。	11 Alors Jésus prit les pains, il rendit grâce et les distribua aux convives. Il fit de même avec les poissons ; il leur en donna autant qu'ils en désiraient.	11 And Jesus took the loaves ; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down ; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.
人々が十分食べたとき、イエスは弟子たちに、「少しも無駄にならないように、余ったパン切れを集めなさい」と言われた。	12 Lorsqu'ils furent rassasiés, Jésus dit à ses disciples : « Rassemblez les morceaux qui restent, de sorte que rien ne soit perdu. »	12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
集めると、人々が大麦のパン五つを食べて、なお余ったパン切れで、十二の籠がいっぱいになった。	13 Ils les rassemblèrent et ils remplirent douze paniers avec les morceaux des cinq pains d'orge qui étaient restés à ceux qui avaient mangé.	13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
人々はイエスのなさったしるしを見て、「まさにこの人こそ、世に来るべき預言者である」と言った。	14 À la vue du signe qu'il venait d'opérer, les gens dirent : « Celui-ci est vraiment le Prophète, celui qui doit venir dans le monde. »	14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
イエスは、人々が来て、自分を王にするために連れて行こうとしているのを知り、独りでまた山に退かれた。	15 Mais Jésus, sachant qu'on allait venir l'enlever pour le faire roi, se retira à nouveau, seul, dans la montagne.	15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
